Pick 53: Jack Graham

His quote in the Hearld Sun is a ripper.

“The boys have been getting into me- I’ve played more finals than homes and away games and I’ve won more premierships than games I’ve lost”.

Remarkable story and a draft lesson for all. Data is great but competitiveness and footballing ability are king. Always.

Ha ha, that is a great stat :hihi

Part of the reason I thought this would be a good season was the great recruiting and also drafting. I haven't really been happy with these in past years. I was most excited by Jack Graham. Before the season even started, I remember having conversations with some Richmond mates to not lose the faith and how I had a real good feeling about this season (something I hadn't really had previously).

Before he even played his first game, I stuck my neck out to quite a few mates. Some Richmond supporters, and some not. I told them that he would prove to be the steal of the 2016 draft. They were skeptical. After the grand final, they had agreed with me.

Along with his physique for a young guy, he has such great composure. That first goal he kicked in traffic testifies to that. I already think he is doing enough, but wait until he starts playing more than around 60% game time, which will come from a full pre-season and as he gets older.

At the Grand Final I was just looking in the middle at a center bounce and thinking, what other 19 year old in his first season would be playing right in the guts in a Grand Final? Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Go Tiges!

From his interview on the RFC site. Cult hero in the making.

But his performance is even more meritorious given the role he played for his side. After Sloane kicked two early goals and was getting away from the Tigers, they sent Graham to stand Sloane and shut him down in the second quarter.

Graham felt a little odd about doing that job, but knew he had to give it everything he had.

"You don't want to be a prick of a thing, but I needed to do my role for the team and shut him down. I respect him so much as a player," he said.

"I was mainly pushing him under [the ball]. I'm not a really physical guy, I didn't want to bash him because I respect him so much so I just wanted to annoy him a little bit.

"Maybe I did [get under his skin] a bit but he's a great athlete and an amazing player who I've modelled my game off for the last three or four years. To be next to him was amazing."

Not only did we beat the cocky pricks, we got one of their own to bend them over.
Mr Cool. Paul Broderick part 2

Couldn't let go of that cup. Think he likes winning flags. Turns to Cotch as they approach the victorious rooms... "How good's this?" says Fridga. Sent shivers up my spine.

can we please lock him away with a stepping 5 year extension with increase pay and year conditions at years at 4 5 6-
--- this is our next major long term captain

Rumour has it Graham was so determined to follow through on Dimma's instructions that when Sloan got back to Adelaide he walked through the front door and got tackled.

Sometimes you see a player and you just know.

Perplexing he went at 53.

Agree completely. Man I love this kid. I was pretty happy we got him at 53; what a steal. But I never expected this from him this year. He is just a natural footballer with a big strong body. Can never have too many of those.

Hopefully we can lock him long term as no doubt the SA clubs will come knocking and try and get him home. Hopefully he realises how good it is living in Melbourne and playing for the Tigers and never wants to go back.

I read somewhere they were pretty torn as they all support the Crows, but they way the Crows played I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped on the Tiger Train.

Their support aside they'd be pinching themselves wouldn't they? Their son's playing his 5th game in the GF, kicked 3 goals and now he's a Premiership winner and Richmond life member!

KB said on the radio yesterday he could be the 1st Rising Star winner to already be a Premiership player.

I hear Sloane may be coming home to Victoria. Would you trade Graham and say 17 for him?

Sloane and 16 for Graham you mean, surely.
