Pick 53: Jack Graham

Manchild? Who knows. He may never be better than this. Even if not, he's currently best 22.

I'm loving the way he goes about it.
Play him.

He'll get better, ToO. Much better. Missed the draft combine with a quad last year. Hamstring tendinitis held him back in the preseason. In late March he fractured his ankle. He'll find another gear or two with a clear run next year.

Fascinated to see how he goes against the big bodies in the Geelong midfield next week.

Buggered if I can see the love for Caddy.

Never have never will.

Not about loving Caddy. It's about who is the better option to play in front of 95k people in a Qualifying Final at the G.

Townsend will play forward, and Dimma has intimated that Caddy will play. The question is who for.

Some have said Markov, but I reckon he's a different type.

Graham, in spite of what he may become, is a 19 yo who has only played 2 games. Caddy has played over 100, matches, or betters, Graham in every department, and also adds versatility and experience.

So if they're gonna bring Caddy in, without changing the fundamental structure of a winning team, it has to be Graham that goes out.

IMO of course.

I also believe its either Caddy or Graham.

Caddy is a September footballer who knows how to win. His experience will be invaluable next Friday.

Like Gyps syas he'll get better mate. A lot lot better.

He is the lowest he'll ever be aerobically. Extremely poor base to come off. Can't believe he's having an impact at all TBH,

Even if nothing else improves (it wont be) that alone will gain him a stack of improvement.

Unfortunately Graham will probably be dropped, but from what I've seen of Caddy this year he is a pretty underwhelming player. His bags of goals were all handed to him and missed half of the sitters from 20-30 metres out. It will only be his experience that will get him the nod. Having said that, if Caddy fails to deliver next week, assuming he gets over the hammy that is, he should get dropped for Graham in the next match

Too late by then. Our only chance is to beat the Cats this week.

If we pick Caddy and he plods around with his usual half arsed efforts and we lose then someone needs to be held accountable.

Massive risk to play him in a final after a hammy when his season has been below average

Play Jack against the Pies on Saturday, an extra game under his belt will do him good.

Half arsed efforts? Caddy is the blond bloke in No.22, mate.

I'm not quite as scathing of Caddy, has been very important at crucial times. But your point about his goal kicking is spot on. Missed a lot of sitters. This is where Townsend has succeeded. His accuracy has put the scoreboard pressure on without fail when needed, and killed the resolve of the opposition. Put this into context against Freo. Early on, Freo had come to play, they were right in the contest and perhaps on top of us. Towner kicks a few and suddenly the game changes. Say for instance Towner had missed some of those early shots. Keeps Freo in the game and changes the context of the contest entirely.

Anyone who has seen Towner over the years would have to say his kicking has been suss. Even after his 11.1 the last 2 weeks Towner himself said in an interview that he is usually a poor set shot for goal and was surprised with result. People need to temper their expectations that he is a dead eyed *smile* when it comes to goal kicking.

Yes agree with that point, two games is a very small sample size.

Yes worth playing both Graham and Caddy this Sat they will both benefit. Caddy might be given half a game to test his leg. In a couple of years Graham might be another Dusty!

Funny you say this in the same thread as people are saying Graham is the second coming of Christ and will replace Dusty. I love the way he plays, but we need to ease the expectations just a little.

Yep comparing Graham to Dusty is just hyperbole but at the very least he will be a good honest footballer.

It'd be well worth Jack playing on the VFL final this week i reckon, assuming he is elidgable.

Two weeks in the big time and he will be a big plus for the VFL side in their final against the Maggots this week.

Will be good for him to play.
