Pick 53: Jack Graham

best hand full of VFL games I have seen live from any first year kid at Richmond for some time..... Looked like a 50-100 game player returning to the VFL post an injury. Composed, hard at it, skillful. You just know when some players have the ball and seem to have all the time in the world to make the right call, he is one of them.
What has he played :
1/2 after 13 week injury
3/4
full game
1/2 before injuring ankle
full game

He has been outstanding in those appearances but I would still err on the side of conservatism and let him dominate a few more VFL games.

Yes, Julius, but from what he's shown we'll get more out of him than the others who have taken the 22nd spot in the team. And we're running out of time to work out the finals mix.

Doesn't the VFL side have a bye this weekend. Cant dominate if the team is not playing.

As someone who has watched a heap of VFL this year, I appreciate your thoughts Ceasar. Ignore the pedants around here... sheesh.

If VFL side has the bye he's straight in! kids a gun remember watching his draft video after we drafted him and couldn't believe he lasted that long.

TB-H, it's not that i don't think he can acquit himself it is just the limited amount of footy and training we have been able to put into him that puts me on the side of caution. Won't mind if he is named though as I have been impressed and have been extolling his virtues. Dimma loves him so not far away.

Don't think anyone is saying he is an A grade talent just yet - however he goes alright and could be the draft steal of the decade. Has leadership in spades and for our side that is what we need.
Don't be surprised if he kills it thought one thing is for sure he won't die wondering. Hope he stays on the park.

Not sure about big expectations on the kid.He goes hard and fast both ways. He'll be right!

Have you read most of the posts on this thread?

You'd think he is going to ride in on a milk white steed!

People need to temper their expectations a little for someone who has played very little this year.

If he comes up trumps, its a bonus but if not we might have another Tambling-esque thread on our hands that's all I'm saying.

No not a white horse - a black one :)

I understand where you're at but it wasn't soft tissue injuries that held him back this year. Judging from what we've seen so far he's done a mountain of fitness work and is ready to go.

Agree.
Wasn't he the south Australian captain?
Reminds me of Coghlan

Maybe so but the boy only knows one way that's all - hard & straight.

Not saying he'll make it but the ride should be good!

He'll make it, Dave. Couldn't do much more than he did at the junior carnival to get a reputation commensurate with his ability. Captained SA. Won their most valuable player. Won the Larke medal. Dominated against the big reputations in Vic Country in a close win. But the fact that he slipped to the 3rd round of the draft proved recruiters weren't convinced by all that. They were quick to pot Jack Graham when they should've been quick to praise him.

His credentials aren't that of a 3rd round draft choice. He's a high achiever and a leader. Also captained SA to the title in 2014 in the U/16s. So his 2016 wasn't just a flash in the pan. He's had a sustained period of junior football achievement culminating in a Larke medal to justify his credentials. In winning that award, he joins the likes of Schache, Petracca, Sheed, Whitfield and Coniglio as recent winners.

A poster rightly said Graham was "unfashionable". Luckily for us, good footballers never go out of fashion. If he gets his body right, he could prove to be a world beater at AFL level too.

Happy to see him in this week, just as happy to see him given more time.
