Pick 53: Jack Graham

Hope Graham eventually gets selected for a couple of games preceding the finals ... could possibly be a surprise packet for September.

He'll make it, Dave. Couldn't do much more than he did at the junior carnival to get a reputation commensurate with his ability. Captained SA. Won their most valuable player. Won the Larke medal. Dominated against the big reputations in Vic Country in a close win. But the fact that he slipped to the 3rd round of the draft proved recruiters weren't convinced by all that. They were quick to pot Jack Graham when they should've been quick to praise him.

His credentials aren't that of a 3rd round draft choice. He's a high achiever and a leader. Also captained SA to the title in 2014 in the U/16s. So his 2016 wasn't just a flash in the pan. He's had a sustained period of junior football achievement culminating in a Larke medal to justify his credentials. In winning that award, he joins the likes of Schache, Petracca, Sheed, Whitfield and Coniglio as recent winners.

A poster rightly said Graham was "unfashionable". Luckily for us, good footballers never go out of fashion. If he gets his body right, he could prove to be a world beater at AFL level too.

Happy to see him in this week, just as happy to see him given more time.
Been a few " unfashionable " footballers over the years, few elite ones that come to mind, Swan, Mitchell, n one of the best ever in Diesel. All rated as yeah , nah, *smile* when they were hoping for a run. All proved absolute guns, hopefully, maybe Jaaack2 might come close. Don't need to be pretty to be a great player, need to be able to find the pill n use it.

For a moment there I thought you said Garfield,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Has Garth played a game yet??????? Nahhhhh. Dunno about Garth being an unfashionable footballer, he's looked a fairly tidy player the couple of times I've watched him. He's just an awkward unco looking kick, But I'm more than happy to hope Garth becomes an elite Tiger champion as well.

The introduction of Robbo, was a chief football writer in one of the biggest newspapers in the world, however, as soon as I heard what Robbo said, I thought he was the biggest wanker in the world.

Yep,injuries were the only reason I could justify his slide in the draft.

Cut and paste from earlier in the thread.

'Since 2005, the Larke Medallist has eight times been drafted with either the first or second pick.
Examples include Carlton captain Marc Murphy, Melbourne pair Jack Watts and Christian Petracca and Giants duo Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield'.

I didn't realise Paddy Steinfort won it. Disappointing he never played a game especially given he was our 1st pick that year.

Hope JG bucks the trend of under-achieving Larke medallists at tigerland ;D

garth taylor, kayne pettifer, paddy steinfort ........... Jack Graham.

Most of the Larke Medallists in the past 20 years have gone in the first round of the draft with a few exceptions.

You were all over him last year Gyps. Great pluck.

Hopefully he transitions up one more level to the big time.

I still hate watching Richmond squib contests every time I watch a game but bringing in Miles and hopefully another hard nut would go a long way to me tapering my concern about our softness.

If anything it'll take the heat off the 3 Soft Amigos.

You obviously don't watch a lot of Richmond games...
