Pick 53: Jack Graham

Serious question, is Graham best 22 with Taranto and Hopper in our team?

It's a long season, it's not about best 22 rather best 26-28. I think everyone can agree that Prestia and Cotchin aren't playing 22 games next season.

Best 22 arguments are overrated.

BEllis was a heart and soul RFC player and he moved on after 2 flags. Not sure what all the Graham love is about. Easily replacable with a hard working mid on cheap coin. Not like Jack is a super skilled mid. Works hard and tough in the contest. Those are easy to find. All this talk about captaincy yet he was nowhere near it this year when they selected Grimes and Nank. Id happily take an early 2nd rounder. We need to improve our midfield skill level.

If he stays at Richmond, and with the arrival of Hopper and Taranto, chances are he becomes a defensive mid or tagging midfielder who will get limited gametime.

If some club wants to offer up a late first or early second for this type of player, you'd have to take it.

but that’s his role now. He’s never going to be a forward centre mid. His contest to contest running and link play is very important to us.

him and jack ross are competing for that spot. Good to have some depth there, it’s a hard role to play

All well and good to say easily replaced with a hard working mid on cheap coin but with who?
If they are easy to find, why haven’t we found any?

I’m not against trading JG if he wants out, but I’d want a decent return for once.

Graham has always been a player that’s been debated amongst my tiger mates. Doesn’t accumulate enough possies to be a Prestia lambert type, and is not damaging or skilful enough to be a Cotchin edwards type.

He applies heaps of pressure and defensive running, but I just don’t think that’s enough anymore.

So our B&F system is utterly flawed?

Prestia and Lambert couldn’t be more different to each other IMO, same with Cotchin and Edwards. So not sure where that argument goes.

And Graham isn’t even close to being similar to any of them.

It's easy to understand. We have players who sacrifice to be "richmond men". Cotchin did that better than anyone. He went from a Brownlow Medallist type performance, to getting 15 possessions and smashing a dozen packs a game for others.

Graham is similiar. He sacrifices his game, to be a Richmond man. That's why he has leadership material. He does the selfless task for us. When he's been asked to go accumulate possessions, he's been able to do it more often than not. It's just we don't ask him to do that often. He's an accumulating type player, who sacrifices that side of his game to help us win.

Today GWS footy manager Jayson McCartney was talking about having lots of work to do to get the job, Hopper and Taranto to Richmond, done.
Players like Jack Gr and Riley Collier-Dawkins are likely to go for late 1st or early second rounders.
Don’t want that value winding up at GWS.

Picks 12, 19, 30 and Soldo with pay from us of $400,000 x2, for Hopper and Taranto and 38, is more than reasonable.
Don’t sell the farm Richmond.

I wonder if Jack was going back to Adelaide end of next year so club is seeing if this year can get it done?
