Pick 12 discussion.

Surely wouldn't get past the Cats.

You mean the land of the giants? Clark, Stanley, Lonergan, Blicavs, Simpson, McIntosh, Vardy and Hawkins.

On paper they don't really need a key forward but might have an interest in Goddard. I guess they did move up the order for a reason. It might have been to bank Wright away.

What so weller could get to us ???? Surely not we can'tossibly get that sort of luck !

True but Lonergan and McIntosh aren't getting any younger, Vardy can never get on the park, and Clark is no certainty to have an impact, all things considered. Which leaves Blicavs, Simpson, Hawkins and Stanley - I reckon Wright can fit in.

IMO there's a decent chance we'll get lucky. Listened to Cal Twomey's draft podcast earlier, he mentioned Freo might be looking at Weller at 13 - implying he'd be available at our pick.

Wright slipping in the draft is a phurphy or a red herring if you will IMO.

Durdin is the one IMO who could be the slider.

And depending if Laverde/Ahern/Duggan/Marchbank/Lever/Pickett/Cockatoo get picked up before #12 then Weller could be available also.

We would be very happy to snare a silky skilled although slight midfielder in Weller @ 12.

Weller and Gore with our first 2 picks would be a very good result.

Cockatoo also a wildcard.

That would be the aim, I really hope FJ takes the opportunity to grab a fast player at 12. I really like Duggan but he doesn't possess the same speed & agilty as Weller, it may even cause us to reach for a guy like Drummond in order to meet our need for speed.

Garlett, Garlett, Garlett.

Garlett isn't as quick as Weller & Cockatoo, he also doesn't possess much of an inside game. I really think we need to attempt to grab a well-rounded mid with 12.

I have a hunch we will be left with a handy mid at 12, by virtue of there being so many good talls.

Moore, Goddard, Marchbank, Lever, Wright, McCartin, Durdin, Langford all could be potential top 5/10 picks.

Someone's gotta slide, lets hope we are the ones to grab someone like Ahern or Weller.

please let it be Ahern.Has Wingard traits imo!

The question marks on Wheller are whether he will be able to put on the weight required .

Very slight ATM

He's brother is a unit.... I'd say he should be fine might take a couple of years though

Our pick will be somewhat exactly what we expect it to be and thats safe. I 'm thinking Duggan or De Goey. Interested in what happens if Weller or Durdin slide.

There's bugger all difference in pace. He has greater endurance and more razzle.

Garlett finished in the top 30%, Cockatoo ran the 7th fastest repeat sprint in combine history, recording a faster time than Dangerfield & Rioli at the equivalent age.

I would be rapt to have either one of them in yellow and black. Cockatoo is definitely a power athlete; Garlett is quick enough to be quick at the level, especially when you factor in intangibles like anticipation, which he has in spades. He could start as a dangerous small forward as well.

Comparing the two I'd say that Cockatoo has the edge in many categories, for one he's an AIS lad, his development would be much further advanced. His defensive side is also far superior, in 2013 Cocky averaged 5.9 tackles a game, in 2014 Garlett managed only 2. Garlett's inside capabilities are almost non-existent whereas Cocky comes from a largely inside base. Cocky's contested ball winning ratio was 64% in 2013, which means most work will need to be put into his outside capabilites, much easier than the other way around. Garlett has the edge in disposal efficiency coming in at 68% to Cocky's 60%, but given their roles I wouldn't be placing too much emphasis on this stat. Both players need to improve in this area if the truth be known.

It all comes down to the desired player type and gaining maximum value from our draft position, I see Cocky as Dusty MKII, Garlett as a slightly slower version of Brad Hill. I think I would take the former all things considered.
