Pick 12 discussion.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

I'm starting to warm to Acres. If Lennon and Salem are gone by 12 I'd be happy to take him. Seems like a real silky utility mid, great skills and able to play all over the park, not unlike our very own Brett Deledio

The risk with high inside ball winners in the first round is very low. Toby Greene, Oliver Wines & Matt Crouch this year.

Crouch is everything we lack. Fierce tackler, clearance machine and smart with the ball. It's Luke Ball all over again.

I think the big difference here is Crouch's fitness base, Wines was an aerobic freak at u/18 level so it was almost a given that he would make an immediate impact. Greene, whilst not in Wines class, also had an excellent endurance base to work with. Crouch from all reports isn't a good trainer and he's not AFL fit at the present time. This may all change once in an AFL environment, but there's still some way to go before he gets a mention alongside Wines & Greene.

All this may be academic because Salem being in Richmond colours is looking better by the day. At the moment my predicted top 12 is as follows -

1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Billings
4. Scharenberg
5. Kolodashjinij
6. Aish
7. Bontempelli
8. McDonald
9. Lennon
10. Freeman
11. Sheed
12. Salem

There's no denying he's highly talented but any club wanting to pick up Acres would want to do a very thorough medical check, the last thing you want is another Travis Varcoe scenario.

I'm surprised and shocked that we haven't had the usual leak from the club who we are targeting.

It's too early for the leak, wait for mid November.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

I'd prefer Dunstan to Crouch personally. Dunstan is a Vlastuin type, plug and play 200+ game hard inside mid with with good disposal and strong leadership skills. Crouch can win the footy a lot but I don't think he's quite got the class to be a star at the next level. You can draft Crouch types later on.

Having said that, Salem is still my number one choice by some distance. Love this kid. He's got all the good qualities Grigg has with none of the deficiencies - he's hard, smart, classy and quick. I so hope he slides to us but have heard Melbourne and Collingwood are both very keen.

Where do people think Cameron Mccarthy will go at and would he fit our needs?

Collingwood keen on Scharenberg at pick 6.

I doubt they'll get a sniff, I think he will go to the Doggies or St Kilda.

He'll go anywhere between 13-20, I think we'll go the best midfielder out of Lennon, Salem or Freeman.

I see Bontempelli has jumped up in your expectations Bullus. Or was that where you always had him? I thought he would go mid-teens still and had expected Collingwood to take him.

I also had him mid-teens before the draft camp, that was before I realised he'd shot up to 193cm. He now projects as a potential key position player with extreme mobility, as opposed to a tall outside midfielder or a rebounding back flanker. He has all the key attributes to succeed in the role - speed, endurance, leap, contested marking ability and elite kicking. He'll never be a power forward but I could see him as a Scott Lucas type who is capable of playing at either end of the ground. He has become a true utility in every sense of the word.

What are your thoughts on Dunstan BH?

Solid inside mid with a decent outside game, and a player who should be a walk-up start at most clubs. His carnival was excellent and he can play as a resting forward which should boost his stocks. He's also got the leadership credentials and is an AIS boy. This is something I personally put a huge premium on as it almost ensures a no d!ckhead policy - those at the helm of the AIS have shown no hesitation in evicting Dayle Garlett & Rory Atkins for a lack of professionalism and there have been plenty of others. Dunstan will go somewhere between 15-20, he would probably go higher if he was dual-sided and a bit more damaging with his disposal.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Thanks mate. Agree about his one sidedness, probably the biggest knock I have on him. I'd be happy for us to take him though, seems like a classic FJ pick to me

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Speaking to Blake Acres aunty today. She said his shoulders are healing well. She also confirmed that 17 of the 18 clubs have spoken to him, with Essendon being the club who didn't.

I think he should certainly be considered for our first pick if our preferred players are gone. He has pace, endurance (his Dad was a runner), and skilled on both sides of the body. Has also demonstrated he can play through pain. I think he could be a real bewdy in a couple of years.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

This is my wish list for November 21
12 - Lewis Taylor
50 - James Tsitas
68 - Mitch Thorp
84 - Chris Cain

He is a super athlete, he really doesn't possess any weaknesses, his testing at the combine may have been down but prior to that he had blitzed in just about every category. If his shoulders are fine then he could be a steal, good luck to the lad.

Crikey, I'd be doing cartwheels at that haul, particularly Tsitas at 50, I doubt he'll slide that far but you never know.
