Pick 12 discussion.

Bugger me Ellis hasn't even had a training run let alone set foot in the club and already the claws are out saying what a crap pick he is. How many of you have actually watched him for 2-3 years like FJ would have? Be lucky if there was one poster that could say they have. Like everyone else I've watched the highlight clip and read all the phantom draft opinions and while there are some weaknesses about Ellis, there is plenty more to like.

If, no make that when, Ellis performs at a high level I hope that the same posters bitching and moaning about the selection are also man enough to put their hands up and acknowledge that he was a good pick, but as per usual I'd expect the keyboard warriors to hope that no one reminds them of their comments.

They were never gonna pick anyone but Ellis, regardless of who was left. How quick did they read his name out.

Just spoke to a pretty die hard Tiger supporter and he said our selections were excellent. I cannot remember which one he is referring to but said one of the players was a Leon Cameron clone and he was so happy we snapped him up.

He also said that Ellis was better than most gave him credit for. Injury had not helped him this year but if fit, would have been a top 10.

Maybe I over reacted last night - so welcome to our newest Tiger cubs :hearton
Guess if any of our picks was to be a Leon Cameron clone, that would be Corey. Ball finder with poise, vision, composure and skilfully dual sided in traffic. Not gunna complain until after I've watched him play some senior footy for us.
From my point of view, Francis and his team plus various contacts would have been watching these kids for at least three or four years. Happy to accept his judgements and welcome all the newbies to Tigerland n wish them long n successful careers with us.
Five bright shiny newbies plus a few more in the rookie draft n we keep building n growing the team.

You sound so confident for someone who has risen above the 'keyboard warriors'.

Are you suggesting that I shouldn't be confident that one of our new recruits is going to perform to a high level?

Also I never said I was any better than other keyboard warriors, made plenty of errors in my time when it comes to backing either a coach or player to come good, but unlike the majority of keyboard warriors I don't hide from getting something wrong. Will put my hand up and say that I stuffed up. Lets hope those that seem to have labelled Ellis a bust before he has even stepped on the park for the club can do the same.

I haven't seen one poster label Ellis a bust, nor have I seen too many posters who are unwilling to admit they made a mistake with pre draft assessments. Those questioning the Ellis selection are doing so with our overall list management in mind, particularly with our need for pacy runners who can make an early impression. If Ellis turns out to be a better footballer than Weller I will be the first to put my hand up and congratulate both player & recruiting staff. But when I hear excuses made for Ellis' average showing in 2014, and then get slapped with the news he may require foot surgery, I'm left wondering whether the club has the required sense of urgency to make a big statement in 2015. Next year is make or break from my perspective, if we fail to make the eight and win a final then it's time for an overhaul, FJ has held the job for 10 years and that is time enough in anyone's language.

Ellis is fit and ready to go. Maybe the age could run a headline Weller might need surgery to repair a broken leg and then in the article mention surgery will only be required if he actually breaks his leg. Would be just as accurate.

:-X

so we went for the guy with the busted foot hey? we should have traded for trengove and sent both he and ellis in for surgery together, 2 for one deal.

Give the club some credit Ffs. They chose not to take Trengive because the dr's said he's busted. People were happy, god save our club Dr.

The club take some with a known foot issue, make a measured judgement that he'll be ok and there's no long term risk and all of a sudden we've got a problem. Can we back the club just once, that they've done their due diligence and trust them. We did with Trengove.

Brightsider. We can never question the clubs decision according to people like you.

Sarcasm?

Hardly identify myself with being a brightsider, just don't think we're completely incompetent.

Yep, definitely qualifies you as a Brightsider around here mate! ;D

heard from somebody that was at the "Club 80" function & he said the surgery was just to remove a bone fragment so it's not too serious

I read somewhere on PRE that he was having his foot amputated.

But he got better again.

Presented without comment. Just a FYI. Lachie Weller last week in the WAFL.
