Interesting. As you say the US is becoming more isolated in the world stage and for good reason. Trudeau has been quite vocal about this issue and it's good to see Albo has joined him to an extent.https://www.pm.gov.au/media/joint-statement-prime-ministers-australia-canada-and-new-zealand
Finally the Australian government have done the right thing and voted for the cease fire. The US and Israel are getting more and more isolated.
The press release together with NZ and Canada actually says nothing more than what has been Australian government policy for a long time
Good to see we have grown some balls on this
I see we have got the expected response from Sen Patterson. Zoe Daniel has also indicated her support for the vote which is politically brave given where her electorate of Goldstein is.Interesting. UK abstained which is actually a move forward for themGood move.
Fewer and fewer people are falling for the bs USA, UK and Israeli narrative that they've been fed the last 60 years. Time for Israel to be brought to account for their behaviour over that time.
Yes, good to see but if the press release has been Aust govt policy for some time, do you know why we abstained from the October UN General Assembly vote on a ceasefire?https://www.pm.gov.au/media/joint-statement-prime-ministers-australia-canada-and-new-zealand

They have abstained now in the last 2 UN GA resolutions, and also in the recent Security Council resolution. How is this a move forward?UK abstained which is actually a move forward for them
What I was referring to was the commitment to the 2 state solution and the illegality of the settlements as being government policy. Both are mentioned in the joint statement.Yes, good to see but if the press release has been Aust govt policy for some time, do you know why we abstained from the October UN General Assembly vote on a ceasefire?
Rather than voting no. Probably being too kindThey have abstained now in the last 2 UN GA resolutions, and also in the recent Security Council resolution. How is this a move forward?
Fair enough. Anyway, I'm just glad Australia voted in favour this time. What I was referring to was the commitment to the 2 state solution and the illegality of the settlements as being government policy. Both are mentioned in the joint statement.
Both of those are based on UN resolutions which Australia supported and I believe that has had bi-partisan support.
I assume the government thought the right for defend yourself was acceptable within that context but I assume now we are saying it has gone too far.
That’s the only thing I can think of
I reckon you're being a tad kind to the UKRather than voting no. Probably being too kind

Sin I have long liked your posting on PRE.I am certainly not condoning the tactic that Hamas used of murdering innocent civilians but the reality is that if Israel achieve this there will still be borders with Palestinians on the other side, they will just be in a different place. There will be Hamas supporters in Egypt, Hezbollah is still in Lebanon. In many ways it will be more dangerous because they will not be able to control supplies to the more radical elements of Palestinian statehood as they do now.
There is only one solution that will give Israel any long term peace and that is to make peace.
That is a long way off.
