Palestine and Israel

Maybe Rita (a typical Murdoch right wing nutter prone to not telling the truth) should include in her commentary how a Palestinian burger joint was set on fire beforehand in the largely Jewish area.
You're thinking of Rita Panahi.

Sam Harris talking to investigative journalist and middle east expert Greame Wood.

That Gazan citizenry participated with Hamas against all those innocent people of all nationalities on October 7 and the ideological differences between Hamas and Isis was illuminating to me.

This is Sam Harris at his crystal clear best. The Sydney protest got a nod. Well done Australia.

Because, you know, we don't know if the fire was deliberately lit...

Also read somewhere, that the original Palestinian 'protest' was going to be held outside the blown-up burger shop, but the owner thought it would be likely to create issues, so asked for it to be somewhere else. And then...

Wow they must have flooded that place with accelerant looking at the size of the explosion when they lit it.

If anyone is wondering why organisations like Hamas can recruit new members.

If anyone thinks that the Hamas attacks somehow came out of nowhere, that somehow they occurred in some sort of vacuum.

Think again, because this article describes life for Palestinians in the occupied territories:

https://johnmenadue.com/gaza-israels-hideous-final-solution/

Is it any wonder that, with all this going on, with the most powerful countries on Earth not only supporting the occupation but providing aid and weapons to the occupying power, with the world looking the other way despite the situation of the Palestinians being reported to the UN, that some Palestinians resort to acts of terrorism? Palestinians in the occupied territories face terrorism every day and have done so for decades, the difference is that it is state terrorism perpetrated by a government supported by the West.

This does not excuse the actions of Hamas, but it does give a pretty definitive explanation of why organisations such as Hamas would have no trouble recruiting followers.

Again, the question has to be asked: what can the Palestinians do to try and get some justice? What can they do that might actually make a difference?

Lobbying, the PLO recognising Israel, the Oslo Accords, motions passed by the UN General Assembly . . . none of this had made a difference and the occupation, the harassment of civilians, the shelling of Palestinian cities, the settlers harassing and shooting Palestinians, all of this continues.

Meanwhile Netanyahu can go to the UN with a map of the Middle East which shows Israel from the river to the sea and the West don't pull him up or express outrage that he has included the occupied territories in Israel. It is apparently fine for Israel to blithely remove Palestine from the map, but claim that the Palestinians should have their own state, control their own destiny and that Israel should stop their occupation, and suddenly you are called an anti-semite. So much outrage over any Palestinian organisation which does not regard the state of Israel as sacrosanct, no outrage when Israel refuses to even concede the existence of the occupied territories and those who were forced into those small pockets of land after 1948.

Somehow Israel has to be forced to deal with the fact that Israel exists on land they threw the Palestinians off. This cannot continue.

Is it safe here in Olde Melbourne Town as one flew in mid afternoon from Brisbane. Walking down Swanston to Y&J's for a quick bite after Qantas bite would not have filled a mouses gut greeted by an angry lot carrying Palestinian flags.

Maybe you should have chatted to them about your thoughts on Palestinians.

Hard to argue against that logic. It is a war of ideas. Hamas cannot be negotiated with. Jihad cannot be negotiated with. It is entirely understandable that Israel wants to wipe out Hamas.

I think the world needs to prepare for a spike in suicide bomings/attacks the world over.

Until muslims worldwide rise up against jihad nothing will change.

Yeah, but you can't bomb away an ideology. Israel can't destroy Hamas by killing the leadership, more will just step up.

Watch the doco The Guardians, about Shin Bet and the security forces, interviews with retired officers. All of them had realised this 20 years ago.

This 'unprovoked' word I keep hearing is insanity. Its so hard for me to fathom. The oppression in Gaza is accepted by everyone except right wing jews, its known almost universally as the the worlds biggest prison, the illegal settlement in the West Bank is the same, viewed as highly problematic and provocative by everyone except right wing jews. Everyone but the most hardline right wing jews have been saying for 20 years that the situation in Hebron must be fixed, and is fixable, its insane. Do Isrealis actually believe its unprovoked and are in denial? or are they just cynically pushing propaganda? Either way, its tragic and says to me there will be no peace.

I can understand the Israeli response. I can understand support for Palestinians. It's horrific.

But ultimately when you have a religion that can have millions of followers that condone the killing/slaughter of non-believers you are *smile*.
