Opposition discussion

This is the worst season ever on so many levels notwithstanding the Skunks continuing to win.

Ive checked out pretty much
The Swans play a wonderful style. Their ball movement and fast break midfield is electric. Enjoy watching them.

But the rest? It as stinky as it has been since I don’t know when. Lot of very average times with huge flaws make up the eight.

I posted as soon as I seen petracca back on the mcg,get him off he's got a serious injury, it was obvious, and nothing petracca said should of convinced medical staff otherwise, a very disturbing decision.

Melbourne window shut. Petracca out long term, forward line a mess, midfield shallow, Oliver a shadow of the player he was, not trading Petty, trading a second round pick for McAdam! They got hot for the six weeks before the 21 finals, rampaged through a finals to a flag and looked unbeatable for the first 10 rounds of 22. Since that point, very average. List has been mismanaged, the next generation is ok but they didn’t get the mix right to keep the window open. Gawn is all time great but the plan for him to go forward and Grundy to ruck, was the point of no return.
Was looking at last years draft, the Dees knocked back 2 x 1st rounders (1 2023 and one 2024) for Harrison Petty.

They easily could have drafted Nate Caddy or Daniel Curtin with the Adelaide pick and had the Crows first pick this year that looks to be around 5-8. It's one of the most fascinating nontrades ever. The dees are desperate for young key position players and midfielders.

If the Dees miss finals this year they could have two top-ten picks in this mid heavy draft. Caleb Windsor, Nate Caddy/ Dan Curtin, Koltyn Tholstrup and two first rounders this year, take any of Jagga Smith, Sid Draper, Sam Lalor this year and their is a young core.

New lesson of list management, if a player doesn't sit in your top 10 and you can get extra first-round picks, you do it every single time.

Oliver doesn't look right at all.

Oliver doesn't look right at all.
Reckon it's a pretty simple one Tooheys and a valuable lesson for every young kid on our list.

Clayton Oliver is an outright champion, 4 X B&F, 3 AA, at the peak of his powers one of the best onballers in the game, has done 7 or 8 preseason.

BUT missed 85% of this preseason, you can't be elite off that. And then you fold into that all of his issues, it's no shock that he is struggling.

27 in a month. It is possible that we have seen the best of him, alternatively if he has a monster off-season free of issues and he can be elite again. With all the outside football issues attached, it's a harder road back.

I didn't know this. Amazing Adelaide would offer that for Petty.

100%,,they were basically thinking big goal kicking power forward based on 1 game against us and to think Adelaide thought the same.

Dees should play the kids. start 2025 now.

If they don't play Jefferson now, then you know they have zero faith in him.

Rolling Petty out every week is madness.

Alternative viewpoint. The list has Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, May, and Kosi Pickett.
Plus a good support base.
With this abundance of class it makes sense to have a swing.

So Oliver took a horrible preseason, no doubt it was on the cards but the Dees back themselves to keep him straight.
Brayshaw retires is a big loss.
These events happen after the trade period.
And the Dees go chips in, because its better to strike out than to fail wishing you had kept Petty

*the Grundy trade the year before was bad

Interesting comment from Tommy Boy Morris this morning re: Petracca's family not happy with Snowbourne's misjudgment on his health status. Come to us Trac!!

I’m glad our docs do the injury assessment. If bad enough get the player off, take the time to do the assessment properly, any doubts or concerns straight n an ambulance to hospital.

I’m sure Luke Meehan isn’t involved in that side of things

And they are absolutely entitled to feel furious at his treatment.

If that was my son I'd want heads to roll.

Similar types. Might have to give something back in return. Zips, or Luke Meahan, perhaps.
Yeah, maybe. Petracca is probably the better player, but Clarke is younger, and assumedly cheaper.

Not sure how Zips would go as a Dee supporter- "number fourth is jolly *smile*" doesnt quite roll off the tongue.
