Brock McLean disgusted at Melbourne tanking, so he wanted to be traded to a side that tanked just as much??

McLean was a member of the leadership group at Melbourne not Carlton. It wasn't the Carlton coach that made that admission to him privately and then subsequently publicly, it was the Melbourne coach. Add to all this what we clearly saw during that season and only a deluded or disingenuous Melbourne supporter attempting to protect their ill-gotten draft picks would consider that point at all relevant. Remember it's not McLean alone making the accusation with nothing else backing it up.

Oh another thing that really kills me about all this is if someone connected with a club places a tiny little bet on the outcome of a game he'll get crucified by the AFL. However if a club indulges in actual match fixing (because that's what it is) not only with the AFL do nothing, they'll get their spin doctors out to deny it ever happened, and those guilty will get rewarded with additional and/or improved draft picks. If this isn't the dictionary definition of corruption and cover-up I don't know what is.

They'll probably fine and suspend him for bringing the game into disrepute by telling the truth. Rule #xyz- If the truth is damning thou shalt tell lies.

Noooo Neverr... :hihi

Yep because there would be a lot of punters out there who lost money on game's where Melbourne threw the result.
If you a admit that any match was fixed, it opens up Pandora's box.

I hope this is investigated further and costs Melbourne a pick or 2. It would allow us to move up a position in the draft. :D

Heard on the radio that McLean is going to receive the 'please explain' from the AFL. LOL.

Should have kept his mouth shut. IMHO Everyone including the AFL know they tanked it's more that no-one should admit it publicly as it will force the AFL to act. AFL I believe covered up the Bailey comments as 'almost' admitting :hihi

AFL trying to hide the dirty laundry.
Odear Adolf.

Great summery. Time to act AFL.

Clubs have been blatantly tanking to regenerate their lists ever since the AFL decided to add extra priority picks because neither the Tigers or the Bears were competent enough to drag their sorry arses off the bottom of the ladder.
Scumwood, Carltank, Wet Coke, Meltank, have all blatantly used the system to top up with cream.
Wallarse claimed he felt compromised by ladder position and earlier picks even though he had no idea what to do with his picks.
Bailey and Brock have admitted to tanking.
Libba dobbed on Carltank and got hammered for it.
Scumwood admitted putting half their side away early because they weren't going to make finals.

Dimi and Insignificant don't care, they know it happens but there's always the plausible What! Who me? No I'd never do such a thing trotted out and accepted.

It's a bit like when there's a stray stench in church, everybody knows someone farted but no one can prove who it was so everyone just quietly sucks it up without making a scene.
This tired old tanking story will quietly waft away on the breeze and disappear before the finals crank up.

I'm very interested to see how the AFL handle this. The way I see it they have 2 options: keep denying and sweeping under the carpet the very real unintended consequences of their own policies, or have full-blown inquiry with appropriate Carlton-like sanctions.

If they attempt the former, who would buy it? McLean was bang-on with his 'Blind Freddy' line.

How do you prove tanking ?

I would be surprised if there was any documentary evidence around.

Any findings need to be watertight to avoid litigation from the penalised clubs.

The word of one player, an assistant and a sacked coach ( who never really said it was tanking ) ? against the Club/s involved ? a lot of he said / she said stuff.

Its not that I don't believe it happens , but whats the point of penalising Melbourne now if it is proven ? They are arguably irrelevent anyway..

the only good thing to appear to have come out of this is the comments of Deledio about the tigers during the same period.

The bottom line is that if the rules allow for manipulation of results to benefit a club in the mid to longer term, people are naive to think clubs would not expoit them.

Doesn't have to be documentary evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt.

He knows his footy. He may have a huge Swans bias, but he knows his footy. There is a reason why he and so many others in football don't respect Richmond, why they are always wary to heap praise and make grand statements about our future.

The last 3 weeks and beyond have unfortunately provided justification for their skepticism when it comes to Richmond.
only one thing will shut everyone up PREMIERSHIP , until that happens we are the butt of everyones jokes

Yes we all know it but the AFL can no longer just keep sweeping this issue under the carpet. The evidence is overwhelming.
Replace the word tanking with cheating and it's very clear to me that Melbourne should be stripped of their compensation picks for Scully at the very least.

Agree - the AFL are bound to look into this more formally now - simple conversation behind closed doors is not sufficient.

If it can be proved beyond reasonable doubt, then I suggest Melb loose the two picks they received for Scully

You gotta laugh at the idiot demon supporters ringing up SEN taking Maclean to task and saying there was no tanking they were just no bloody good. Talk about head in the sand stuff.
