On the couch

Cotch said Rance wanted to play on Cloke so he got his way. What about the coaches decide on the matchups, aren't they paid for doing that???

I think it's good in a way that Rance was pleading for his chance to take on Cloke and redeem himself. Shows confidence, character, self awareness

Maybe the players got caught up in the hype. We had a bloody band at training and 5000 people there on Thursday. Ridiculous.

Wouldn't be so bad if it were a good band

Interesting. I used to hate it when I was in trouble and someone was disappointed with me rather than just being angry. Seemed like it used to stick with you longer. I use it with my kids when all other avenues are exhausted. ;D
I was thinking the same....its so much worse :hihi

I would liked to have seen a player ask hafey barassi or malthouse that he would like to play on a certain player.
Bloody stupid if you ask me..what happened to the 3rd man up?

Rance putting his hand is like the soldier who volunteers to defuse the bomb. No one wants to do it but the volunteer may not be equipped for the job. Certainly blew up in His face and collateral damage was horrendous.
That's why armies have generals and football clubs have coaches.

How will his confidence be this week?

Well he'll be even more eager to prove himself no doubt. He knows he's much better than he's shown so far this year

This quote from Cotchin blew me away and as much as players want to redeem themselves or make amends for past poor performances that there not happy with my jaw dropped listening to Cotchin saying we thought it was fantastic that he (Rance) wanted to put his hand up to play on Cloke...WTF under no circumstance should that sway the coaching panel, Chaplin shoudlve played on Cloke PERIOD.....

Cotchin quote "They were given the option of putting their hand up and wanting to take on the challenge obviously Rancey had been disappointed with his performances in the previous weeks and wanted to show that he was capable of taking on one of the best key forwards in the competition"

I think it great that Rance acknowledged a lack or form so far this season and was not gun shy about trying to fix it but what is slightly concerning is no changes when it was failing.

Agree. That and the training comment.

Just bemusing really.

That happens a lot in sport & in normal work when someone wants to challenge themselves you encourage that. I looks like his team mates didnt help him out much we all know the Pies were going to target Cloke that's all they have maybe that was a coaching error.

And what would have been the reaction had Rance kept Cloke to 1 or 2 goals, it's only because Cloke kicked 7 that people question why he was on him after the fact, and if Chaplin had of played on Cloke and had 7 kicked on him the boots would have been out and people saying that Rance should of played on him.

And if my aunty had balls, she'd be my uncle. The fact is that the coach allowed the players to pick their opponents and instead of matching the best body we have to Cloke, he let Rance do it cos he had amends he wanted to make. Bad coaching.

We don't know if the selection panel considered Alex was our best option anyway.
