Seems to me like the defence never take any responsibility when things go wrong, it's either the matchups were wrong or the midfield didn't do enough to restrict supply. Granted, our midfield was well beaten in the third but had our defenders been able to nullify a few contests and provide some rebound, the midfielders may have had time to regroup and start winning some ball.

Sydney's defenders were able to absorb enormous pressure from Hawthorn in last years GF which bought the midfielders time to get back in the contest.

We overdid the handpass and we lacked any running support from behind from the likes of Pettard, Newman, Grimes (which is understandable when the other side gets a run on). This is where I see Batch as important, he is very good at identifying those moments. O'brien and Shaw provided those moments for the Pies but cannot remember a tigers defender bursting through the centre.

We don't know if the selection panel considered Alex was our best option anyway.

Agree....I think there's a big difference between Rance putting his hand up for cloke and say Jake King or Shane Edwards doing the same (and Rance was one of the better backmen on the monsters last season). Suggestions that the players are calling the shots in this regard are little over the top. And of course you add in their midfiled dominance and Cloke kicking them from everywhere and he would have been hard to stop for anyone. If Jack has a day out we would be putting it down to his/our good play rather than one lone backman being rubbish. With Chaplain dazed, we may not have had many other opions at the time without robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I thought Trent almost sounded petulant. He didn't seem to like the way they highlighted Swan's play (not that I blame him) and didn't acknowledge his good game in any way. It doesn't hurt to be humble in defeat. Fact is Collingwood's midfield flogged us and Swan had the better game of the 2.

Disagree...I didn't really get that impression to be honest. I think it was a fair enough response. They weren't "on" each other in a one on one sense for the whole game, so as captain of the team he would be defending (in context) the whole, not just himself. I thought he was being as succinct as possible when he said it didn't work for him in the first half, but it did in the second. That's concession enough. I remeber in the days of Frawley when he would fawn over good oppositions....I didn't like that for being too much the other way. (OMG! Forgive me everyone for dropping the F bomb just there!!!)

Yep maybe Dimma got this matchup wrong but no need to hang him for it. As Chimp was also very keen to point out the lack of pressure coming from up field did Alex no favours whatsoever.
It's not just as simple as a one on one. Our lazy assed mids share this one.

Well said. I'm not surprised our defenders struggled, considering the ball was in Clingwood's attacking zone for most of the second half.

Don't think that applied in Trent's interview.

(Was posting the following for a new thread but just noticed similar comments here)

Our performance on Saturday and Trent's comments make me wonder if we got a bit ahead of ourselves based on our first 3 wins. Party atmosphere at training. Attempts to manufacture tribal crowd support. A belief we were ready to take on the top 4 teams and media comments about how we'll do it. The fact training sessions this week were poor is very disappointing. Success doesn't just happen. It takes hard work and commitment both at training and on the field.

It almost seems like finals time at Tigerland rather than the start of a season. Not much use putting the cart ahead of the horse. Heads down and bums up Tiges or we'll never experience the carnival atmosphere at the end of the season. I'd prefer to let our footy do the talking at this stage.

Great post Rosy.

Watch the 'Open Mike' interview with Matty Scarlett - he and the back 6 use to decide on who they would play on every week. Now I know Rance is no where near a Scarlett but you have to back your players in and besides, I don't blame Rance for Collingwood kicking the ball lace out to Cloke in that 3rd quarter. The midfield group is to blame for that for their lack of pressure on the Collingwood midfield.

Yep. You've nailed it.

Yep.. you can almost put both 3rd quarters from 2012 and 2013 together and draw so many comparisons. One way, training drill, uncompetative football. The type of football that you might get away with against a St Kilda or Bulldogs but against a well drilled unit like Collingwood they made us pay heavily.

That's exactly right.

In addition, Richmond fans feel the pressure more than most, which is understandable, given that our club disappoints more often than most.

Tiger fans were up and about last week, fed by nonsense about how the team was in sparkling form. This week they are downcast, with all the usual doubts back home to roost.

The reality is that any win against Carlton was a good win, the game against the Saints was OK without being spectacular, the win against the Bulldogs was great but slightly unsatisfying and Collingwood should have won. We are about where we should be.

It is amazing how many media performers have picked Richmond to miss finals but are jumping up and down at this week's loss. Surely, losing games is HOW a team misses finals so if you pick a team to not make finals you expect them to lose a large number of games, why has this come as a surprise? The surprise should be that they have already won three games, not that they lost one.

I'm just repeating what you have already said now.

Have a Listen to the music on AFL360 when they throw to a story about a team under pressure, coach career on the line, drugs etc , think the world is about to end :hihi

The video is up for those who missed it.

surprised about some of the comments about Cotchin. thought he answered the questions about Swan well. Glad he took them to task about cherry picking vision to suit their argument.

Interesting that Pendlebury has come out today and accused Collingwood players of cheating at times against the Dons.

They rolled the dice again, but this time they lost.

Again that "spread" cost them. 10 goal loss to the hawkers and a 8 goal loss to the mighty bombers

They want Buckley our already.
Stkida has fallen back into the pack and they're slowly following suit.
There receivers are getting shown up, Thomas, fasolo, mccaffer & Blair
They have no depth. To come back is Ball, my granny is quicker, krakour do you take out the kid Elliott for him, didak :rofl
Your cant be a top side over 5 years anymore, unless your Geelong

The difference was Cloke couldn't drop a mark last week. He was in the zone therefor there was no rebound.

He couldn't take a mark because Carsile was stuck to him like glue and bellchambers & hooker did there job and chop out when they were required.
Team work by the bombers stopped cloke.

I agree to some extent, but as the coach said he got his hands on plenty that he should have grabbed. There were a few early on where he had his man beaten but just dropped them. Plus he kicked as well as he can last week, 7.1 or 7.2. He was definently on.
