Warriors get thumped by Canterbury & Titans easily account for the Raiders. The Warriors have been terrible for my tipping as I keep thinking they'll turn things around. They might next week playing a depleted Melb Storm.

That game in Melbourne or Auckland MB?
In Auckland unfortunately, would give the Storm some chance but Warriors are due, they did play 1 short for most of the game yesterday.

2 upsets tonight with Penrith beating Manly & the Dragons beating the Broncos.Saw the Penrith one coming but not the Dragons result.Message to Tigersnake,I'm leading 1-0

what was that Milton Bradley?

All squared up as we both went tigers, 4 or 5 all. Canberra have been good to until now.

Tippin this season is nigh impossible geez what with St George, Panthers and my Dogs getting up when all at long odds.

Doggies falling apart at the seams off field and expect player and board movements from what a lil birdy has let me in on.

Whats commonly made news so far was the certain release of Corey Hughes, Adam Perry and the sacrifice of Matt Utai to allow the dogs to re sign El Magic. Hughes is no doubt a victim of the post Coffs debacle and the split of the Hughes family and Turvey Mortimer from the once proud strong club.
Folkes also on hit list of some directors ................ If Folkes goes the Dogs are dead set F*****, he is holding the club together at the minute.

O Meley happy to be leaving and rumor i heard was this BS has had a big bearing on the Ogre leaving Belmore in 08 not just the extra cash the Woosters will throw at im.

O Meley, Maitua, Mason, Hughes, Tonga and Utai all believed to be very angry with the board and the way the players are being treated.

Tonga rumored to wanna leave again ................... after holding the club to ransom and giving them nothing since they shoulda let him go and put that money to better use re signing, O Meley and Asotasi.

Which all once again brings me to this question ............. If the dogs have had to release, Asotasi, Thurston, Price, O Meley, Anasta, Myles, Harris, and also possibly, Pery, Hughes and Utai (almost and entire senior squad), how much are they *smile* paying Williams and Mason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I woulda been happy to see Williams go and have kept Myles, O meley, Price and Asotasi - 4 quality rep performers instead of 1 Youngster who has not done anything consistant to deserve the millions he is reaping.

The Doggies are in pretty ordinary shape at the moment.

Easts are doing pretty well in the QRL at the moment, third on the ladder, two points behind the two leaders. Our halfback Dane Campbell has had what may be a season-ending injury which is disappointing because he was starting to find the form that saw him almost single-handedly drag us into the 2004 GF and nearly win it for us in extra time. The current halves combination is pretty good still by all accounts, including the other 2004 GF 5/8 Isaac Campbell at halfback.

Ye bit of a turn up that one. .................. but whaddya know they get rid of Smith and look what happens, Taylor had em up and about last year after taking over and they are continuing on now, not that i rate Hagan as the worlds best coach.

Smith is creating a disaster in Newcastle.

That he is MB ;)

Although many scribes north of the border better versed in League i believe predicted such forboding for the Knights, although most was directed at how Joey would not get along with Smith.

The Knights have potential, but the 07 season and possible player exodus could dead set consign the Knights to the basement for a while.

And eventually Smith will be shown the door without a flag to his name.

Panfers, Cowboys, Cambra, Tiges, Storm, Sharks

It's true that Smith can't win Grand Finals.

But he does know how to build teams capable of playing regular finals football, deep deep into September.

Smith is the type of coach you bring in to clean out your club, build from the ground up with juniors and new signings, gets the team just right ... Then you bring in a coach to take them over the final hurdle.

Parramatta for instance most probably would have won a title had they sacked Smith post-2001 GF. (obviously the lifetime contract stopped that from happening) They lost the unloseable GF in '01 based on his moronic decision to defend Jason Taylor in the middle of the line for most of the first half. Once he worked out his mistake Parra outscored the Knights 24-6 but the fact was the horse had bolted and Newcastle already had 24 on the board before Smith made the move. A better coach tactically would have taken Parra to their long sought after premiership in one of the following two years.

Newcastle will be fine. Smith is one of the best junior developers in the game, let him loose with Newcastles huge junior talent for 5 years and watch them rise significantly.

:clap That's the more sensible post I've read re NRL on this site. Newcastle needed a massive restructure anyway and now that Andrew Johns has gone there was no time to waste. Plenty is happening and it's not all negative. I dont know how you Storm guys rate Ben Ross but he's now been signed by the Knights apparently.

Brian Smith almost worked miracles at the Dragons and Parra. The Dragons made two grand finals against the Broncos. Sure they got slaughtered but were a team of spare-part players against a team of champions(basically the Queensland State of Origin side). To finish ahead of all the other teams was quite incredible. He then went on to achieve similar things at Parra.

A team with Lockyer, Fittler, Johns etc can make a coach look like a genius in a grand final. If you dont have one of those then Brian Smith is a very good coach. In hindsight he spent too long at Parra and Hagan probably likewise at Newcastle. I reckon Newcastle got the best coach for their current needs and expect them to remain a force in the NRL.

Disapointed to be losing Ben Cross but it is wise for the Storm not to offer a 3year deal for a 29 year old. After the Storm re-signed Brett White it was always going to be hard to keep Cross.

My tips for this week's games
Souths to def Panthers
Raiders to def Eels
Warriors to def Storm
Roosters to def Cowboys
Sharks to def Dragons
Tigers to def Knights
