I reckon he'll play rnd 1 too considering that Lynch, Caddy and Grigg will probably be missing.
He can play Ruck, wing and forward and doesn't look out of place in any of those positions

Forward for me. He's already shown how dangerous he can be around goals. A tall with goal awareness and great on the ground is hard to come by. I agree he can probably play anywhere in time.
I think it’s a no lose argument, his athletic talent and footballing skills mean he will be a success anywhere in time.

I reckon that’s the keyword et Competed , got his hand on the ball, was in many contests, it just wasn’t his night but he never stopped competing. I should never put Vickery or Griffiths on the Balta thread , however so so many games at both levels where you just forgot they were playing . There was a fair bit of Houdini about there football.

Our defensive fifty is fine for the next couple of years, I am looking forward to see how Balta is as offensive weapon. :clap :clap :clap

Not going to argue anymore about Balta's best position, as he's probably as close to a true swingman as we've had since Jim Jess, but not sure our defensive 50 is as strong as you suggest.
Garthwaite and ??? maybe Marsh returns as a bona fide AFL KPD player but we lose Rance and or Grimes and we're in real trouble as Broad and Garthwaite aren't suitable replacements for those two. We don't really have a rebounding CHB in the VFL to groom.

How about he is our good old fashioned utility. When was the last time we had a player we could throw forward or back pending the situation. Let alone throwing him into the ruck for stints.

Think you have to settle him first. Kid has been thrown around a bit but not sure he's dominated at anything yet. Hope he doesn't get confused with the uncertainty. I personally would play him another year in VFL at CHB but understand we have pressing needs for a support ruckman in the 1s. If we had a true option, not sure Balta would play seniors. Yet.

Better than many think. He has to play Rd 1, he has so much scope.

He really has to be played to get enough senior experience by the time September comes. What was that saying that if left long enough in the VFL they become VFL players?

He has so much more scope than Ellis, Markov, Menadue and the other foot soldiers on the fringe.

Tore a fairly large hole in Smelbourne last week, albeit in a practice match n was handy n competitive during the Hawforn game. This is one kid you don't bury away in the magoos n forget about. He did his initial development year last year, he'll get the senior carrot dangled in front of his nose for this year and deservedly so. He's big enough, fast enough, competes enough n has talent enough to legitimately claim some senior game time. Doubt he'll hold a senior spot all year, it'll be all about cameos n qtrs in games as he develops, but it would be a massive waste of his potential to not allow him the opportunity to explore his senior capabilities. Ideal 18 to 22 on the senior chart with a bullet.

Wasn't necessarily talking about letting him rot in the VFL for the rest of his career! More about developing him properly.
In context, If we have a fit Lynch, Caddy and Grigg and had a viable second ruck option ( but we dont ) do we throw him in any position on potential? I've heard wing but not sure everyone appreciates the elite running endurance McKintosh and Grigg require to close down space. Huge part of our game plan.
Point I'm trying to make is as a makeshift 2nd ruckman, we may not be developing him to his full potential because of necessity but not necessarily whats best for the kid long term. Also makes us very tall in the forward line.

If i was the Coach of RFC , Balta plays every game this year

If we are going to play Nank as our Ruckman with no genuine 2nd Ruck (which we currently dont have until CCj is ready) Then Balta is extremely important to our line up.

Crows , Eagles , Pies all exposed us for our lack of tall 's and Ruck relief

You're the one wants him playing magoos all year, that's way to much rotting for a kid with his talent. Developing him properly is all about rewarding quality performance with genuine senior game time, not listing him as an emergency sometimes because he's done well in the magoos for six weeks.
Higlet got senior game time last year, went back to magoos to work on some stuff n he's blossomed, way to good for magoos. Balta's done a year of magoos, shown he's got plenty of big boy toys to play with during the practice games and needs this year to be his step up n look around year. Some senior footy when he's in form n some magoos when his form tapers.

Lynch might not be ready, Cadds, Georgie n Grigga also carrying niggles. Grigga's getting old n then there's players like Lloyd, Miles, Conca no longer at the club plus Cholly, Cujo n Soldo aren't exactly tearing things up. Perfect time and opportunity to play Balta some forward n ruck as he's trained for over summer and done in the practice games.

Fair argument.
Hope they apply the same theory to Garthwaite also

This time last year it was leaping Lenny Moore and this year we have Usan Balta.
Why can’t we play

Rioli jack Balta
Castagna Lynch Butler as our front 6

Moore didn't put the sort of performances that Balta did and in the games he did look handy his goal kicking was sub par.

So you can't compare Moore to Balta.

Once Garp gets over his injury niggles I'll be happy for him to get a look at some senior footy. Problem for Garp at the moment is that his prime option seems to be back up for *smile*. He might possibly get a run if Broady, Grub or Tross miss games. But, I don't see the explosiveness or versatility in Garp that Balta has shown. Comparing Garp n Balta at best would be like comparing Tross n *smile*, completely different types of player.
