Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Question to all.

Is it trendy to bag Soldo without justification?

He’s a kid who is doing a truck load of work to help our club and yet he’s getting a jeer squad.
it is the sheep mentality?

Well said DDT, he's still a baby in footy terms. Only 21/22 which is still very young for a big fella. Imo he's got time on his side.

He does have time on his side and I haven’t given up on Soldo yet - could still be a handy ruckman but I just feel Balta has gone past him.

I watched the third term of JLT v dorks again today and I reckon Balta did some good to very good things and competed extremely well when he took the centre ruck job.

I will be flabbergasted if he doesn’t play against the blloos - surely the Baltanic farce doesn’t kick off round 1.

Not up to AFL level but still young for a ruck.

So, lets keep him on the list, he is a back up to Nank if Nank is out. Second ruck goes elsewhere.

Meanwhile, he gets the chance to improve over the next couple of years and then we reconsider.

Nank still has plenty of years left too.

Balta is an absolute lock for round 1.

We are building a list of 190-194 cm athletes.

Here is the prototype.

Youve been around long enough to understand that PRE needs 4 whipping boys at any given time DDT.

Like a candle needs a wick.

If we had 10 cotchys, 10 dustys, 10 JR's and 10 Ranceys

Then 1 of each would be completely sh!t.

Thats just our equilibrium.

But woh ho, the whips are getting bigger

Of course, people gotta have a victim they can kick *smile* out of just because there's an easy target available.

At this point in time, if Nank goes down we're completely *smile* in the ruck without Soldo. There's no way that Balta, Cholly or Cujo could carry the first ruck position for at least a year or two. Soldo may be a bit of the old dinosaur type tap ruck man, but at least he's got the size n capability of carrying the main grunt load of ruck. The others might be able to carry a 15% chop out load but that's about it.
Bloody pointless comparing Soldo to Balta as Balta is a completely different athletic beast. Soldo , massive young lump trying to learn the game and learn how to be a key ruck man, he can't really play anywhere else. Balta, talented young athlete who could / should become a premium all ground footballer, could play key defence, key forward, mid field beast, part time ruck. Any or all of the aforementioned would fit Balta perfectly, but not first ruck. He'd more than likely get broken in a big hurry.

Soldo played 1game in 2018. The Tigers preferred Grigg in the ruck. Hardly a whipping, just a reality check. I think most acknowledge if Nanks goes down Soldo is next in line for first ruck. We don't have anyone else. And yes he has time, but it's fair to discuss the merits of the chance of success in the longer term.

In fairness to Soldo, although not being the most competent mark above his head, he's light years in front of where he was 12 months ago.

His attack on the ball in the air actually has conviction. 12 months ago, if he went for a mark it was like he was doing it because he felt he had to.

His ruck work is reasonable. Bear in mind you could count his Aussie Rules games on two hands when he played his first VFL game, i'm not sure what some on here are expecting. Right now he's our second best first ruck option which is a massive effrot from where he's come from.

Having said that, i'd be playing Balta with Nank round 1. At least with Balta, we can play 2 rucks and Lynch in the one side.

Agree Balta must be played round 1, although H&A no team can take passengers so give him 3 weeks and lets see his progress, he is definitely a better round the ground option and has huge upside that we need to expose to the highest level, great signs but still very young. BTW loved his massive boot to goal square after rucking and winning the ball, saw him kick a 70M goal in TAC doing the same thing, huge talent

People were creaming themselves last week, we found the next Plapp, the next Kouta, but this week it’s turned to nothing. Besides a 15 minute spell in the 2nd qtr, Balta was quite against Melbourne.
How many fakes talls have we had under Hardwick? Besides jack who was there before he got there, who has he produced??

The quality of a fairly large sack of spuds there zippers. Only two of that lot had a fair amount of potential n one of those was very injury prone.

Didn't you see the game? He was excellent after quarter time. Quiet against Hawks but that's what you're going to get out of a tall youngster. Inconsistency. Still did the little things though, bring the ball to ground, directly responsible for creating goal opportunities on a number of occasions. That's what you want to see still working hard despite things not going your way in a game. Of that list you provided there's probably only 2 youngsters realistically that you could argue have produced as much as Balta at 19yo. So the excitement is warranted imo.

Give the perpetually offended their dues, it’s been pretty slim pickings for a couple of years.

That kick was on his non preferred left foot by the way, impressive! :clap

Anybody who believes that Balta had a bad game against the Hawks does not know football , The kid was playing against Frawley in the 2nd half and created more chances for his team mates and was the player who managed to bring the ball to ground and was directly responsible for 2 goals to the Tiger due to his body work.

Its not his natural position as a 19 year old to be 1 out in the goal square against a very experienced and premiership full back but he did extremely well to break even with sometimes 2 kpd from the hawks

My foggy hazy crystal ball actually sees Balta replacing Down the line Dave in time , I’m still of the belief he’ll play his best foot as attacking chb type, however his such a unique talent I think he can play anywhere. As we hit the start of 2019 though I think his our best option for back up ruck, wether that be best for him :don't know

Our defensive fifty is fine for the next couple of years, I am looking forward to see how Balta is as offensive weapon. :clap :clap :clap

Forward for me. He's already shown how dangerous he can be around goals. A tall with goal awareness and great on the ground is hard to come by. I agree he can probably play anywhere in time.
