Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Oh right! On all the available evidence you'd be an expert psychiatrist ... or a moron!? (Your choice of abusive insult as directed at me but you are so above that).

Obviously not big enough to apologise though, just keep demeaning the unfortunate victims of B/P as well. What a hero.

#lolDontArgue (think expert psychiatrists can figure out how to use apostrophes btw)

You’re right. I should apologise.
I’m extremely sorry that you’re such a moron.
As I’ve asked you to before, try contributing something interesting and worthwhile on this site instead of just continually taking pot shots at others. It might take you a whilst but could be worth the effort.

Wouldn't mind seeing Moore given a try down back, has the pace, is ok overhead and i think he has the demeanour to play there. What's your thoughts on trying him there.
Been there done that, perhaps the Club thinks Lynch isn't a realistic option to be able to play for 22 games so we'll need back up during the season? If that is the case i can see the idea making a heap of sense.

I have not seen him, but your reference brings to mind our own Jack Graham who was only 19 last year.
Having seen some VFL games he's got a huge build in the flesh.

1 for Bully, could Balta fwd be a reason for no Williams? similar type of player?

Yep could do but we still need to find another key defender, can't rely on Miller & Garth to fill the big boots of Rance & Astbury.

A lot of ppl saying Garth is a grimes replacement, but grimes is super quick.. Garth looks huge at present obviously been in the gym.. Just saw a 45 min footy show that Jack and Lynch were on this week and Jack said we love Garth and he will play games this coming year.. Who will he come in for?

I remember you said that Balta played a juniors game that he got 26 or so playing Mid, that or the Grigg role should be where were looking although he has stated hes training with the forwards.. interesting times!

Spent heaps of time on the ball so could play mid, 17 contested possessions in 1 game, plenty of flexibility on offer.

With 6 6 6 teams will probably skew towards defenders rather than runners in the back 6. I'd say Garthy eventually comes in for Houli and Shorty pushes up to the wing or plays the spare after the centre square setups.

Back 6 could be

Grimes Astbury Garthy
Flossy Rance Broad

Dunno lambshanks. Looks way to negative n static for my liking. We'd spend all game with the ball sitting in our back half trying to play shut down footy like Sydaknee.

All sides will need some dynamic players in defence to take advantage of the new kick in laws. Sides will pay a heavy price for inaccuracy in front of goal as the opposition can basically get it and go, no more kicking the ball free of hand and foot and the man on the mark back a further 10 metres. You'd want blokes with pace and who can kick long and accurately bringing the ball in after a point is scored as with these new laws you could transition the ball from the kick-in into a scoring opportunity very quickly.

These changes will have a far more dramatic impact on the game than the 6,6,6 rule and the sides that can exploit them best will have a huge advantage. I think Short becomes a real weapon under this new system and must play deep in defence to exploit the new rules.

His field kicking isn't too bad, it's more his goal kicking.

He went around at about 60% kicking efficiency in 2018. Quite poor under pressure from games I've seen and would need to improve that immensely to become a solid backline player. For me Moore is a forward/wing or bust.

Garth doesn't look slow to me. He's always hot on the heels of his man. But for me in the shorter-term the obvious guys he would potentially replace would be an Astbury or maybe Broad.

we are way off the Balta thread... but here goes

No way do teams change to a static back 6. The trend has been for run and play-control by designated defenders.
Teams will continue with this.
the 6 6 6 rule is only in place at centre bounces. For the rest of the match the teams will play as they did in 2018.
Houli and Short will stiill be played to turn turnovers into shots on goal. It will be more speed, not less.

I am with broders, we will see more attacking play and high risk gambles from a kick-in.

Got a feeling this rule will be the one the AFL suits will be wetting their knickers over. The potential launch from goal square to goal square could very well make the defensive pressure game fairly redundant.
The AFL want twenty goal a side games so the media can get all their advertising dollars in each game. In theory it sounds like a lot of fun watching shoot out games, but I've got a feeling we'll be in for another era of 30 goal to 10 obliterations for the poorer sides if they've got no way of trying to shut a game down.

I share your concern. There is a real chance of more shellackings this year as a result of the new rules.

Given the way they have played in past years Sydney could be a side that suffers from the new rules more than any

The above is really off thread.

Back on thread a player like Balta could well benefit from the new rules

The pressure for spots will go to a new level next year.

You might be onto something there ,

And with more blowout games , (there was talk of it this year as a concern with ratings )

it may not help the situation with viewers switching off early , which isnt want that they want from a $ point of view

The pity is that, even if the new rule is a disaster, they won't admit it and get rid of the rule, too pig-headed for that.

Maybe if Richmond manage to take advantage it might convince them to get rid of the rule, they do seem to dislike us.

Especially when the result is beyond doubt late in games and the opposition's morale/structure slacks off.

A faster game with less down time in between offence/defence (following a behind) favours teams who can quickly setup team structures and maintain concentration. Richmond is best in the business at it.

More than ever, Balta (or any young player) will need to be comfortable transitioning from attack to defence in just a couple of seconds though. Concentration lapses should be easier to expose on the rebound if this rule really does speed things up in transition.
