Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Mr Brightside said:
As I’ve said to you before Bully, there had to be something to put the recruiters off him as there’s no way the football and athletic talent he has slips to 25 without a reason. No doubt I’m a tad biased , however from what I saw off him in a lot of games last year his ceiling is higher then most top 10 KPP drafted in the past 10 years.
He's a ripper.

What he did or didn't do in the lead up to the draft is irrelevant. The fact he is now in a professional environment at a club with a zero *smile* policy means it is up to him to excel or fail.

Balta in interview video on RFC site confirms he will be playing forward this year:

Always enjoy your read Jack, but you’re hearing wrong.
For anyone who enjoys hearing inner sanctum insights directly from coaches and recruiters, do yourself a favour and join Club 80. Worth every cent.
Balta being groomed in defence atm.

From RFC website article on Noah Balta today.

"Balta proved himself in both the backline and forward line in 2018, and is currently undertaking pre-season work with Richmond’s forward group. "

Looks like someone has been feeding tripe to Dont Argue!

:rofl

It makes sense to initially try Balta forward, with Garth and Miller down back we are ok there in the short term.

Were going to say the same thing, it shows the club must have some confidence in Garth Markov and Miller to some degree as successors. Miller's development next year will a key watch to see whether he has the tools to be a key defender, has the size and pace, I am not sold on his contested marking yet and he hangs back a bit and is a bit late getting to the spoil, hopefully his timing improves.

So will we adopt the West Coast game plan of 3 talls and 3 small pressure forwards?. The ruck work I saw Balta doing with Maric was mainly boundary line throw ins and some body work.

Caddy gets his wish to play mainly midfield if he is fit enough and Dusty a more permanent fixture in the middle and less time forward?

Not sure that Caddy has the zip required for full time midfield and in any case why should we be keen to move out a forward who kicked 46 goals last year? I think Balta is understudy to Lynch and will only get a chance when Lynch is unable to play.

Wouldn't mind seeing Moore given a try down back, has the pace, is ok overhead and i think he has the demeanour to play there. What's your thoughts on trying him there.

I like your thinking Tigerman. It’s hard to see him fitting into our forward line but he has some tricks if he can apply them consistently. I’d thought he may play wing but back might work too.

Jack Higgins is a great example

I remember you are i were involved in a thread the year prior to Higgins getting drafted where it was mentioned that he had limited upside and was not too good with interviewing and we both made seperate posts on how we would be very happy if he slipped to our #17 selection in that year.

I watch how they play whilst they have the ball and what they do when the ball is not in their area, Provided they are not total head cases and their athletic traits are upto it then ill take the footballer higgins over a polished performer in interviews every day.

Dusty probably would never have been drafted on his pre draft interviews

The Higgins objections were truly staggering - he's reached his ceiling because he gave up school to concentrate on footy? Now from my perspective that should be a plus, in what world do you mark a kid down who shows dedication? He basically won every award on offer apart from the Larke medal (although he was MVP for Metro). He also broke the Champion Data record for most points over two seasons (he averaged 140). This is in part why I'm happy to part with the expert consensus on a player like Williams, you don't go from top 10 to third rounder after a few lean games of football. I made the point earlier in the year that had Williams been injured like Max King he would still be a top 10 candidate, sometimes it's better to be injured if your underage year has been exemplary.

Yes i think he has some attributes that might hold him in good stead down back. It's got to be worth a try i reckon, because like you i can't see a spot for him in the forward line at the moment.

From what I've seen Balta looks better down back. His ability to counter-attack and get down the ground is strong. Much better than Garth and Miller in this aspect.

I wonder whether Miller has ever been tried forward? He has good pace and athleticism too so would be similar to Lynch in that he is big and can take a grab, can still win it when it spills and is quick enough to apply forward pressure.

Oh right! On all the available evidence you'd be an expert psychiatrist ... or a moron!? (Your choice of abusive insult as directed at me but you are so above that).

Obviously not big enough to apologise though, just keep demeaning the unfortunate victims of B/P as well. What a hero.

#lolDontArgue (think expert psychiatrists can figure out how to use apostrophes btw)

Ok so he is training as a forward, I think his the type of project who will excel anywhere, not wishing for injuries however fact is we will have them and I can see him getting his opportunity wherever there is a hole. I see him replacing Astbury down the track

Can't see it personally. Hs iffy disposal which would show up more in the backline. Wouldn't mind seeing him tried on a wing in a McIntosh type role.

Those shoulders are ridiculous for a 19 yo

I have not seen him, but your reference brings to mind our own Jack Graham who was only 19 last year.

His field kicking isn't too bad, it's more his goal kicking.
