Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Jeez when he puts the peddle down in that highlight clip, he really seems to get to top speed quick.

Has an extraordinary toolkit. Hope he does a reasonably patient and thorough apprenticeship with Fly and then is unleashed in 2020.

And some on here think he's a ruckman!! :rofl :rofl :rofl
Don't know about you, but I'm not driving my Ferrari in one of Easy's paddocks! ( as manicured as they are )

I still think his going to be a key defender, how long till his ready , who knows , he may well do an apprenticeship beside Rance or Rance may move to 3rd tall and allow Balta to take on the big boys. I like the idea of both Rance and Balta coming off of half back

Better to take Grimes' spot and allow him to go back to HBF over Broad.

There are 2 positions in the RFC senior 22 that Noah Balta will NOT play in and they are.

Half Back and Back Pocket.

Premiership back 7 the strength of the side of recent yet many here calling for Balta and Markov to be in the back half in 2019.

Markov is behind Short, Bobble and Houli not Grimes not Broad.

Balta will not replace Grimes or Broad or Vlastuin or Dave or Rance they are our premiership defence.

People are wanting him to fill in McIntoshs and Griggs positions, but those 2 are serious gut runners.

Is Balta know for his aerobic capacity?
Given he drifted in & out of VFL games i'd say anything but a key post is a stretch atm.
That is not to say it's out of the question with a pre season or 2 under his belt tho.

No doubt possesses plenty of natural athleticism & talent. It's the mental development of his game that will take the most work. Hopefully spending plenty of time with Emma Murray.

Balta was under Truck's stewardship in his 1st season, Truck was more a dour defender, now that Leppa is taking over maybe just maybe Balta might learn to take the game on more ;D (a bit of sarcasm people just in case you don't pick that up).

Broad dropped off markedly at the end of the season. Not sure if he was quite right. But agree that Balta is not going to replace Grimes or Broad.

And agree Markov would be after Short or Houli's spot.

Balta is really in line for Grigg's spot.

Evidence of athletic abilities says nothing about his future potential compared to what we already knew from his U18s year.

Has anything changed in the last 12 months to make him more likely to succeed?

Showing the same potential against MEN is the evidence!

Playing at a higher level than TAC against men rather than boys that are smaller and skinnier and still having the ability to mix it up and show he can do what he does at the higher level is in itself improvement .

Noah Balta was also a 'Bottom age player' having his birthday late october which means in 2018 he effectively played the year as an 18 year old,If he was 10 weeks younger he would be in this years draft and would certainly be up there in top 10 calculations imo.

This kids potential is really exciting and with Leppa coaching him im confident he will make it, But i would love to see him play Griggs position and not be tied down to a KP role

Think Balta needs to play a position where he can attack the ball. Not a position like Griggs where your job is primarily to find space and link up. That is counter instinctive to how he plays. CHB for mine.

I predict 2019 will be the year Balta becomes a regular in the Tigers lineup. He has immense talent.

I would see it as 2020 , 2019 he may not be upto it endurance wise

I meant the knock on him pre-draft was his passion for playing football or something along those lines, his athletic traits were always top 10 quality and Rance-like in how he plays.

Just curious if he’s improved in whatever caused him to slip in the draft yet? After all, that’s what’ll determine if he fulfills his potential.

Just because he is a different cat doesn't mean he is not professional in his football. May have come across a bit blase in some interviews an example being:

Just don’t ask young Balta to spend his spare afternoons watching footy.

Perhaps a bigger fan of the round ball code as he is to the oval shaped variety, Balta isn’t the self-confessed footy nut many within this draft crop express themselves to be.

“It’s not that I don’t enjoy footy, I can watch it, I just prefer not to,” Balta says.

But that didn't stop him going outside his game day coaches and engaging former Essendon ruckman John Barnes to help him with his ruck craft and who he said had the biggest influence on his game so far.

In one of his early pre-season training sessions i posted that he was the standout in a tackling drill which showed me a hunger for the contest, (exhibit the tackle in his latest highlight video on RFC).
From what I have seen in training sessions he also appears the most forthcoming of the new boys in initiating conversations with coaches to absorb their wisdom.

Hunger is there, talent and athletic ability is there, (mind/concentration/consistency? will be the key).

Not dissimilar to Rance either. Different cat. Not super obsessed with footy, has other interests in his life. But when he enters the training track and/or game day, he switches on and is the ultimate professional.

That’s great to hear. Sometimes clubs expect these kids to all fit the mound they’re hoping to spot, so when someone doesn’t fit their expected prototype they slide.

Richmond is the best place for him too with our culture, leppa, and Rance.
