Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Gibcus back in defence making the Balta experiment a lot more appealing. Gibcus' intercept marking a key to this working.

Thought the Kosi combo worked pretty well. An insight into Lynch coming back.
2 hitouts in & the ledger has swung positively for Noah up front.
Want to see more during season proper before completely sold.
Just need to remember he is not going to kick goals every single week. We cant jump off because he has a couple of weeks of zero or 1 goals.

Reminded me a bit of the Tomahawk with his strength and rag-doll stuff - is that bad..
There was an interview after a cats game last year with Balta when Balta played on him. He said that he had studied Hawkins forward play when he was a junior.

One of those moments when you realize fans hate the opposition more than players do, as came out a lot in Jack's book.

You cannot stop us jumping off anyone when they havent had a kick for 15mins.
Or bagging the entire club, including all previous Presidents, anytime the opposition score.
(at least on the gameday thread.)

Then he took a mark about 50 out. After thinking about it for a while he played on, did some laps of an ant hill in front of him then tried to kick it 10 metres with the outside of his boot. He succeeded in kicking it straight to his opponent on the mark. (very Richoesque!)
Then he played 3 quarters of great KPF football. (again very Richoesque!)
Then he won it back, baulked four opponents and laid it off by foot to [Kosi?] for a GA? Or did he snap that one?

He passed to Kosi for our first goal- that was they start of his 3 great quarters.

He had his Rance moments down back, but I reckon he will have plenty of Richo moments when he plays up forward.

I'm ok with Richo moments. I'm even ok with George moments.

Balta forward was the biggest success story of the weekend.

We're all just waiting to see him do it in the season.

I still reckon he'll kick 60.

He did that against GWS last year or the year before and didn't the touch the ball a week later.
Just wait little Tiger

All young forwards have off weeks.

We dragged him back because our backline fell apart. We need to avoid that this year. He should play all year forward no matter what.

Something I loved seeing on the weekend is that when he took the forward ruck contests, his strat was to just get in front of Gawn and leap straight up.

He had the leap and reach to never get completely pushed under the ball, but meant that Gawn could never control it, and could only really push him in the back. Eventually resulted in a free and goal. And frustrated the *smile* out of Gawn.

Balta is such an incredible combo of skill, speed, strength, height and agility.

Something I would coach into Balta as a non negotiable. If you take a mark inside 60 metres, you take the set shot. Always. I don't care if Dusty's one on one with gryan miers at the top of the goal square. Don't think. Don't finesse. Just go back and kick goals.

Tylar has elite stats in one-on-one contests.

He sure does. Of key defenders that had at least 50 contested one on one contests last year he ranked 3rd in the AFL at 13.8% losses.

1 - Weitering 10.9%
2 - Sam Taylor 13.0%
3 - Tylar Young 13.8%
4 - Sicily - 15.4%
5 - May - 15.9%
6 - Andrews - 16.0%
7 - Moore - 16.4%
8 - Nick Murray - 17.5%
9 - Nathan Murphy - 18.5%
10 - Sam Collins - 20%

Pretty good company to be in, not bad for a 1st year player at all.

Yeezy said the plan when Lynch is back is for Noah to get up the ground more, hitting the logos. So, maybe 50.

Very interesting.

Also shows how good Sicily is to do that at 188cm - Plus the rebound, drive and ball use he provides. Star.

Absolutely, Sicily is ridiculously good for his height. Probably 1 of the best defenders we've seen with such a height difference compared to who he plays on.

I'd suspect most footy fans would put the top 2 (Weitering and Taylor) but I doubt anyone (even probably most Richmond fans) would expect Young to be so high, but it shows how good a debut year he had last year.

Sam the wall puncher Collins wishes he was as good as our boy Tylar.
