Noah Balta - Welcome to Tigerland

Could he make it as a Bontompelli type?

That would be possible, given he's used to playing in the ruck making the transition to midfield isn't a crazy leap. Athletically the only facet that needs works is the tank. At present he's a mid 13s beep but will need to push that up 1 level. By all accounts he's thriving on the track so not out of the question.

Yes he could. It would be great to have a midfield monster to terrorise the likes of Cripps.

Did for me, I remember the time well, first time I saw him and his first few games were fantastic for a 19yo at AFL level. As I said, after he got that sickening head hit, it stuffed the confidence out of him and that's when doubts about his ability crept in on forums.
Not everyone on this forum shared your optimism on Rance.

Interesting looking back at that draft in retrospect.

- Cotchin number 2 fully justified

- Putt gone (did he even play in the Coburg seniors?)

- Gourdis who was rated top 20 by some a steal in the PSD (but the recruiting knocks on him seem to have been justified)

and finally

- Rance, his good points there for all to see - Phsique, hardness

but wow can't we see why he slipped. He just can't mark, kick or spoil. Not enough to continue with past this his current contract IMO, but I'd love someone to show me this post in a few years shaking thier heads at how wrong I was.

Easily our worst against the Hawks.

Yes that was after his head knock which I agreed he went totally downhill for a while. Checkout his first 5 or 6 games in 2009. I remember thinking what a gun he's going to be. I was just as worried as everyone else with his decline afterwards. Astbury was similar, I remember how strong and confident he was in his early period before all those injuries set in. He was written off by most but has proven himself with a sustained period of health (knock on wood).

Food for Thought

If Noah was 10 weeks younger he would have been in this years draft

Good shout. For a big, it means even more. It’s hard to put his current displays into context being so young.

Really exciting kid. Genuinely changes the list profile and future picks.

Not sure that is such a big deal, would apply to a fifth of the draft

The Mole is exactly right. 18-20 year old Alex Rance didn't fill us with much confidence at all.
Some will remember allybabe who used to bag Alex mercilessly. Used to talk about Benny Hill
Music playing when he went near the ball.

Two things changed for Alex and probably it was just experience or confidence, a combination probably. He used to drop his marks a lot and then it just seemed to click, he is superb mark now. The 2nd was his decision making, he was never a poor kick but he had poor decision making moments. In fact I am sure Dimma used to talk about Alex Rance moments.

A guy like Balta will make mistakes as he did in the vfl game but the key is raw talent and a desire. He has the first, I hope he has the 2nd

We just need to keep him at one end of the ground while he develops.

I watched Leppitsch on open mike , and they got onto the subject of Rance ,

Mike said he used to be a poor kick ( as most of the media used to say ) , what did you do to correct that ?

Justin said , no he wasnt a poor kick , around that time he used to go to ground a lot too , but as he got stronger in the core and kept his feet , he was more stable , so he was better balanced as he kicked , and he stopped going to ground as well

allybabe worked for a part time hawthorn scout. Hawthorn were into Rance from a long way back.

I hope Noah has still a couple of more cms to grow, his cousin is 210cms tall so there is a bit of height in the genes.

We should get Noah to get his cousin's ear to comeback from his basketball in Hawaii and get him as a Category B rookie.

“We just did a bit of ruck work together. Plus my cousin, who is my age, is 210cm. He’s going to Hawaii for basketball. We’d all do a bit of ruck work with Barnesy".

Im sure Balmey is all over this, Would not surprise me at all if his cousin has already visited the club

Doesn't seem like a smart post in hindsight....
