It's the case of Richmond trying to yet again, manufacture midfielders instead of taking them.

Scary thing is the 'List Manager' aka Terry Wallace has been saying this for a while. If they get plenty of the ball as a junior mid there is something like an 80% success rate of transition to AFL. It drops off significantly for any other position.

The first post in this whole thread is interesting. He got 20 possessions in his 2nd game.

I don't really care about what he was or wasn't to me he has the attributes of an inside mid. Strong, big framed, clean hands, works well in traffic, calm with footy and imo is underrated as a potential goal kicker.

The only thing missing is a tank. I don't get the feeling this kid is scared of hard work so build it.

Not sure he can be a Joel Sellwood but he could be a Ben Cunnington who is one of the better inside mids going around atm.

20 in his 2nd, 23 in his 3rd (plus rising star nom), 25 in his 4th, 22 in his 5th: http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pg-richmond-tigers--nick-vlastuin?year=2013

Avg disposals have gone from 16 in his first year to 14 this year: http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pc-richmond-tigers--nick-vlastuin

These stats don't paint a picture of development.

Yep, it's a problem when you aren't played/developed in to the position that you should have been recruited for. Build his tank and unleash him in the midfield. It's where we need him.

I suspect with the return of Chimpy, Conservativewick will rush Flossy immediately to the back pocket again.

Hope I'm wrong, he looked very comfortable as a mid.

He said in his dissection tonight that he would play mid, needs to spread & get more outside ball though

It's funny isn't it. We have strong bodied inside mids with a bit grunt like Flossy and Conca. However they have clean hands and in Flossy's case clear head.

Yet we push these guys out to a back flank and bring in absolute rubbish like Thomas, Townsend and Moore.

Funny isn't the only word for it!

That's simpley brilliant.

Has so much to give the club but Dimma and company will do their best to stifle any enthusiasm and drive out of a player so expect to see Nick back in defence next week

There was a period a few years ago before Conca's injury woes hit where his contested possession and clearance stats climbed high and he looked like he could be a very strong inside mid.

I just wish for his sake and ours he could get fit so we can see if he has it or not when he gets some continuity.

I am of the belief that Vlastuin could be a very good footballer for RFC.
I am just a little concerned that he may be Richmondised before he gets the chance to show what he is really worth to the team.
Play him in the guts for the remainder of the season and see what sort of grunt and leadership he can show in the midfield, particularly at centre contests.

I reackon this guy is so under rated without doubt my favourite player . Hope he gets more time in the middle he has what it takes to be a gun mid .

Conca's not well built enough and his hands aren't clean enough to be the good inside mid we're looking for. The clean hands part especially. Would rate him below average in that area. This is before we get to his kicking.

Vlastuin has a better chance but needs a serious improvement to his running ability.

Dimma has suggested in his Dissection today that they were quite pleased with his game and will persist with him there. Just needed to work on his positioning a little and get it more on the outside too. Fair enough I'd say.

There is no doubt in my mind that this needs to happen. If DH sends him back to a HBF I'll :vomit

My money is on him being sent back to the backline. Will maybe get 5 minutes on the ball but when he doesn't chalk up 8 disposals in that time back he goes!

my money's with your money, Tim.

As long as Leysy doesn't jump on board, we should profit. ;)
