Nick Vlastuin

Floss has been cast down back not by his design but by Handbrake & Co. He does his job back there which is bloody unrewarding when you have others there are that over rated (Astbury,Grimes) it is not funny. I think the way to go forward is to have Rance FB ,Martin at CHB ,Centre plenty to pick from ,CHF Jesus Christ with Jack full Forward then build the team around them. If a guys like Sheds Lambert Menadue Short Vickery etc etc do not fit in they do not get a game. CHF gee someone has to go there & stay there. I would like to see KMac have a run there. Good mark good kick mobile & under rated. Mc Bean cannot asses have only seen him paly limited time last year.

Geld him.

Maybe Dimma has (in mind).

Hopefully just out of form a bit. Playing him on Eddie part of the time a mis-match that wouldn't have helped his confidence. He's usually an honest soldier.

However, what have Frank's picks Floss and Lennon got in common. No leg speed. You cannot select a player without speed for the modern game, unless they have a lot of smarts or brilliant disposal. Lennon a great kick but gets caught at this level; has to become a much quicker decision-maker. Floss struggles with this too.

Compare with what Crows have drafted: the likes of Laird, Brodie Smith and Sloane, Lyons etc. Way ahead on nearly all criteria.

I have never seen a team kick so many great running goals from outside 50. [But Roos managed to beat them].

I think it is clear, leon, that Vlastuin is a cut below the Adelaide small defenders. And sure, he lacks half a yard. But he hasn't put in or the past three weeks. He just spat the dummy today. I'm interested to see how he handles it.

Do you think he'll make it?

Todays game is like a pinball machine, i dont think he likes it much at the minute.

Agree, its the will that seems to have change in him. 1 contested possession today. He's averaging 3.7 from his 3 games this year. Averaged 6.1 in his first year and has gone backwards since then in terms of the contest.

That says a lot for mine. Has that desire been coached out of him?

How are the crazy Luke Hodge comparisons tracking?

Not that great, but for me it's typical PRE to write a guy off who's been one of our best consistently for a couple of seasons because he's not going great in a poorly performing side. He'll be a class defender and quarterback for a long time for us.

The "throw him in the midfield because he was a high draft pick" calls are moronic.

Francis actually said he would develop to a mid, which I always found strange because in juniors he was pretty much the same player he is now

Frank is clearly a moron then :hihi

Our back line looked unhappy yesterday......it almost seemed that they were looking to blame each other after the avalanche of Crow goals.

And that my friend is a clear backhand winner.

Whatever "role" Vlastuin has been given for the 2016 season has him as totally confused, and after 3 games now I still can't work out exactly what Hardwick is trying to do with him.

I think he has been told to stay as deep in defence as possible to somehow be the primary intercept mark or crumbing player, and then somehow set up play by rebounding the ball out of defence - but it just isn't working because the ball comes in so easily.

Opposition coaches are simply exploiting his zone positioning and eventually forcing him to leave that area to pick up an opponent - and since our midfield are allowing our opponents so much un-pressured delivery of the ball the whole backline structure is collapsing.

He looked a lot more useful playing further up the field last year, but I guess someone at Richmond decided to turn him into something else - it's just that the experiment is a disaster so far.

Indeed. Vlastuin is what he was at TAC level. You can't turn players into midfielders. You draft them.

We don't.

I don;t see the problem in him being given that new role, essentially taking over from Chaplin, and if he's being compromised by other players not doing their job then its on them not floss or even Hardwick.

Close to a rest in the VFL if his form doesn't improve. Well off so far this year.

Ironic that Vlastuin, Grimes and Batchelor have kept Dea out of the side for years. The one time all 3 are struggling and Dea is running around in another jumper. Not sure we have any other replacements for that role?
