Nick Vlastuin

The fact he instinctively halves the contest up forward when the 2v1 favours the defenders says it all.

Whats happened to Nick, used to be one of the most consistent, and most reliable players we had.

He was played at CHF FFS. He was often 2 against one. He had his nose broken again.

Dumb dumb dumb selection and coaching

he does ok as a forward when he is played as a mid. what he cant do is play as a tall forward target.
i like him back but if we move him back we lose run and attack from the backline as he will need to replace a 'runner'. i guess moving Ellis would improve our defence, and would effect our run too much based on yesterdays game.

Doesnt look comfortable in the midfield either. We drafted a half back flanker who doesnt have the tank to play four quarters and doesnt get enough of it.

Disagree with your first sentence, I think he has looked comfortable whenever he has played short stints in the midfield. Agree partly with the 2nd, he doesn't appear to have a tank, always seems to start his games like a house on fire and fall away as the game progresses.

Surely Vlos back, Bellis mid, Lloyd forward and Morris VFL, is not to hard to grasp?

Like Vlaustin an though his had some legitimate excuses this season, I'm dissapointed in his out put. Think plenty got it wrong that his a midfielder , definatly worth a try, however he just doesn't seem to see the game unfold well enough in there. I think it's time he goes back to the back half , seems to read the game better back there, maybe he likes been taken to the ball ? His competed hard forward , however I think a proven goal kicker in Llloyd will offer more in the same role.

Vlaus is a tough as nails half back with reasonably good disposal quality. While he is capable of providing a chop out in the middle, can do some nice things in and under, he probably isn't going to develop a tank capable of a four quarter performance in the middle.I think Oleg would be a better in the role Vlaus was asked to fulfil against Adelaide. Based on yesterday's performance I'd like to see Morris out, Vlaus back, Oleg forward and Miles in.

Reminds me of when Batchelor was tried as a midfielder. That didn't work either.
One day the recruiters will stop drafting limited flankers and start drafting genuine midfielders.

Mids can become flankers , flankers can't become mids I believe , it's like KPFs they can become KPBs, rarely happens the other way.

Problem is does Vlas provide enough run and carry because that is the criteria our coaches are looking for in the modern HBF?
That along with long penetrating kicking skills. A pity Short is not tall as he has these attributes but is not great in the air.

Sure there are exceptions but these are solid rules to follow for the main part Colin Carpenter.

I think every backline can use a player the way Vlaustin naturally plays back there, he has a defensive mind set first and certainly isn't afraid to back his judgement in the air and help his team mates out. Even the the back halfs been good I think our biggest issue has been the lack of improvement from C Ellis, Menadue, Markov and Drummond before injury , we would have hoped that atleast 2 of those would have come on and given us run, carry and attacking disposal out of half back as well as wingman pushing back, sadly at this point none have really come on, though they all have time

Not his time in the midfield that is the problem CC (although not outstanding) its his time forward. He has no idea. I agree Lloyd offers much more playing the same role.

IMO, we should have traded him last year while he still had decent currency... i get that's a tough call, a great competitor, but has obvious limitations. We then spent top coin and multiple high draft picks on Prestia, then paid overs for Caddy. We again stuffed our chance to load up on real young talent. And as soon as we get injuries our player depth is exposed... again.

Put him up back and try turn him into Luke Hodge. He's no midfielder, not gonna happen.

We wasted a pick on a good flanker. He was taken too high, but he's no dud. Gotta make the most out of him, of which there's a bit to use. He's no lost cause, just gotta use him right.

He keeps getting his head knocked off in midfield contests too.....maybe he just doesn't have the right instincts to be a genuine mid......he is a genuine hard nut though, reads the play well down back, is good overhead and his disposal is good....I never get nervous seeing him with the ball in the back half, as I do with others......Maybe for now, he should go back....he can maybe pinch hit in the middle...but we can probably now say its not his best spot.

Cant have Vloss and Conca in the backline. Looks like they have backed Conca to play that role which is dumb. Move Conca back to the midfield and Vloss to the backline. A no brainer really but *smile* has no idea.
