NBA 2011

Can't wait to see the Knicks in April when I am in NYC.

Got tickets vs the Bulls. With Melo onboard a good night, got even better.

That should be a great game scoop

Just read that Deron Williams has been traded from the Jazz to the Nets, with the Jazz doing pretty well out of it.

Does anyone else feel it detracts from thenba with the merry go round of player trades?

The standard if obviuosly brilliant but this really is a negative for me, little chance to bond with a team as it changes so often. Im a magic fan who had their turn recently with Vince Carter trade & while I certainly think that has helped improve the magic's chances I still dont like the fact that it can occur so easily.

Hope our game NEVER gets to this point.

Kind of agree with what your saying. I would say Free Agency is what causes most of the merry go round.

Teams can get destroyed in an instant in the NBA if their superstar player walks out on them for nothing as a FA. While other teams can become a real contender in an instant. No players given up, no draft picks, etc just a big fat contract. Not to mention certain teams struggle to attract talent because of the city they play in. I think a lot of these trades that happen are teams management panicking and anticipating that when their player is eligible will become a FA and walk out of them for nothing. Deron Williams was fighting with the coach who retired and was obviously not happy in Utah as of late, he's also been heavily linked to leaving to New York as a FA along with Chris Paul. Utah may as well trade him before the deadline and get a good package rather later on losing him for nothing. I saw he only heard of the deal and how he's shifting teams on Sportscenter because it happened so quickly. Wouldn't be surprised if Williams walked out on New Jersey and they get burned.

Same sort of thing with Melo. Obviously wanted out of Denver and has been heavily linked to New York too as a FA. From all reports he was desperate to play there and it's his hometown. It was in Denver's best interests to trade him now before the deadline and get something in return rather than later on him having walk for nothing to New York as a FA. FA causes a lot of problems for a lot of teams in different ways. Will be interesting to see how this new proposed CBA will affect all of this.

Williams to New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, the Nets' 2011 first-round draft pick, the Golden State Warriors' 2012 first-round draft pick and $3 million in cash.

Sloan gone and D-Will gone....who would thought that would happen 12 months ago.

Massive last few days it been then....Jazz had to do it.
They were not sure if D-Will would re-sign with the Jazz when his contract expires.
They didn't wanna be left empty handed like Cleveland were.

Word has it that the Clippers and Cavs have a trade on the table on principle not on paper yet but it's a done deal.

The trade involves Baron Davis and Mo Williams.
Los Angeles Clippers have agreed in principle to trade star Baron Davis and their 2011 first round draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Mo Williams and Jamairo Moon.

Few more big trades were made before the deadline.

Bobcats have traded Gerald Wallace to the Trail Blazers for a package that includes two first-round picks, Dante Cunningham & Joel Przybilla.
The Bobcats also sent backup center Nazr Mohammed to Oklahoma City for reserve forward D.J. White and the expiring contract of guard Morris Peterson.

Rockets made two trades.
Shane Battier and Ish Smith are heading to Memphis for center Hasheem Thabeet plus a first round pick.
Aaron Brooks to the Suns for guard Goran Dragic and a first round pick.

Celtics and Thunder made a big trade also.
Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic to the Celtics for Perkins and Nate Robinson.

I was lucky enough to have the day off of work, therefore had the opportunity to catch the Bulls/Heat game.
Good win by the Bulls, they beat the Heat for the second time this season.
Impressive performance.

Deng was clutch, been playing very well as of late.
Can't believe he was being considered tradable.

Chris Bosh put in probably the worst individual performance I've seen this season.
Noah tormented Bosh inside and out.
Bosh missed his first eight shots from the field and finished with 1-18 from the field which is the worst shooting night in Heat history.
He had his opportunities from mid range, but the close-outs came quick and Bosh became tentative.
Defensively, he got beat up in the post against Boozer.

James had an opportunity to tie the game up in the dying stages with a 3 pointer but failed like he usually does in that situation.
I'll call it now....Miami won't win it this year.
Although Chicago were impressive....I can't see them winning the championship this season.

I know they have aging lists but Celtics, Spurs & the Mavs are looking the goods. (At this stage Celtic's are my pick if they stay healthy)
Obviously Lakers are still amongst it also.
Knicks have zero chance, Okay they have Melo but they virtually traded 4 starters for him.....the bench depth is laughable.

Do you think the C's still have as good a chance with the trade of Kendrick for Green? I think it weakens them as a team, especially if they come up against a team with a power centre.

Fair point.

Seems Portland are really starting to play well despite Roy not back to his best. Not good for Mills court time though.

They had zero chance before Melo. The Knicks did really well to get Melo. Anytime you get someone who is one of the top 5 scorers for players that are all replacable over the next 6 months you do it. The Knicks got a lot better for today and will get better over the coming years. Knicks basketball is back.

He may be a top 5 scorer but he doesn't defend just like the rest of the team. That sort of play doesn't win championships now or ever.

Look at Mike D'Antoni system. Get up and down the floor, seven seconds or less is his motto. He wants to outscore the other team. Get up and down the floor and put the ball in the hoop. Run and Gun. Melo is perfect for that. It's a great trade. Melo, Stat and Mr Big Shot are a good three for that system. Chuck in Fields at the 2 guard and you have a good four. Need to find a centre and bench depth but that can be found. Good trade by the Knicks.

Yeah it's still early to say...I'll wait and see over the next 3-4 weeks or so before I will know if the trade was a good one.
First of all Boston are not exactly light of Centers,
Also Perkins has been injured most of the season he only played 12 games with the C's this season.

Melo is a shocking defender, None the less it was a good trade for the Knicks.
They won't be contenders for a while yet....But it's a good thing for Basketball in New York.

Yeah, he's had his injury problems. Also he refused to sign the extension with Boston multiple times (can't blame him though was a crap deal), was as good as gone as a free agent down the track. Green is a good defender, scorer and is versatile. A talent make no mistake. However, he can also leave though down the track. Still, it's a big gamble for this season, will all depend on how healthy S/J. O'Neal stay. Another head scratcher is why they traded Semih Erden for a 2nd rounder. Another big and he looked a decent prospect.

That's all well and good but in Mike D'Antoni's system they don't defend whatsoever so no amount of scoring will help them. This is why they will continue to be inconsistent and beat some decent teams and lose to terrible, terrible teams like the Cavs. Won't work in the playoffs. They need to rectify this somehow.

It's not about now though rather the next few years. Melo and Amare are a good start, Fields is decent then what do they have? Nothing. Wouldn't be including Billups in any future plans. Dude is 34 and just playing out his career in New York. They traded away a large part from the core of their team. Felton, Gallinari and Chandler were more than just bench depth, they played a big part. All youngish decent or good players who can improve. I'd actually still rate Denver's roster ahead of New York's even after losing Melo. Lacks the star power now but even spread of talent and much more depth. This will be proven with them finishing with a much better record than New York.

New York has a long way to go. You're right, they need to find some more players. A good Centre because Turiaf is rubbish, PG to replace Billups down the track, decent bench depth, etc. What do they have to give up though? Will they get another big FA signing such as Paul? They need one. New CBA could hurt them. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
