Nathan Brown

i once loved him, but now he's bin. sh!t interview of sam newman

Agreed.
He had some good questions written for him but if he was any good at interviewing he would have got sam to actually say something.
For example, when Sam said he wasn't a good father Nathan should have asked him 'how haven't you been a good father?'

Lucky sam wasn't interviewing Brownie...
q1: 'you're a good player, why were you so *smile* this year?'
q2: 'how much do you earn?'; 'why are RFC paying you that much?'

Think it's pretty clear why Brownie has not been able to perform as he would like has played injured in every game since he broke his leg this has caused Hammie problems now has groin issues just can't get his body right & has lost that zippy speed & kicking power which he needed to get away from the backman still has the skill & smarts but body gone!!

Morton has been an adequate replacement kicking 2 goals a game since he debuted with the club has 76 goals in 38 games for the Tigers. Brown played 82 games for the club kicking 143 goals at 1.7 but he did set more up than Morton does.

At his best Browny also had the ability to very effectively pinch hit in the middle.

Morton hasn't yet got that string to his bow, I'd like to see him develop it.

I read so often about how Browny never ecovered from that broken leg.....sheez I thought newmo's leg was as bad if not worse from a phyisological standpoint. I just wonder whether Browny was lacking some of the drive as he aged that he ahd when he was younger. I wonder if he truly had the hunger to go that little bit further. Browny was one of those freaksih players who could make you or break you. His best never came with him to Richmond.

Agree. Morton is a forward only at this point. A pretty good forward and our best trade of the last 10 years but I would be disappointed if he stays only a forward. Should use Alan Didak as a example. With a football in his hands I don't think skill wise he is that far behind Didak, work rate he is miles behind.

disagree with all of this.

Browns leg still makes me physically ill just watching it

Brown's form that year was outstanding - some of the best football I've seen ever

Agreed. That game against Collingwood where he won it for us in the final quarter was sublime and then to be struck down by such a sickening injury.

Ah, what could have been that year, 7-2 and finals bound.

That form before the leg was magical. In his prime, which Nathan was just enterging into when he destroyed the leg, would have a been a 60 goal forward for the following three years. At his best Nathan Brown was Stevie Johnson of 2009. If not smoother.

The Brown injury was were it all began to go wrong for Terry Wallace. Nathan 's skill and class covered up a lot of cracks within the side because he made others better. He told people were to run with his kicking, directed traffic with his feet.

Spot on Scoop.

Yep very sad that we were only afforded a relative glimpse of his talent during his stay at Richmond.

I remember a goal in the aforementioned Collingwood game, playing on Clement, where he dribbled the ball in front of for what seemed like 50 metres and kicked the goal soccer style. To kick 5 in a quarter on Clement just shows how good he was. Then a week later he kicked the winning snap against the Lions at the Gabba.

It really is sad that it has ended this way.

I really enjoyed watching you play, on song Browny. Loved the whole Batman & Boy Wonder routine early on with Richo. You were a very exciting addition to our ranks. I remember so vividly the feeling when your leg snapped, just made be ill. Such a pity you couldn't get back up from that.

See ya & thanks Dr Pink ........................ maybe in the winners circle at Headquarters ;)

Yeah a lot og goals are kicked but I'll never forget that one which is included in this clip.

Also love the one at 0.38 secs where he strips Houlihan of the footy at HB and puts it through. He really was quite genius at his best.

Thanks for that ToO. Gees he was good. What a shame he never got close to that form again.

I think the writing was on the wall for Brown the moment Wallace was gone. I know for a fact Brown's groin was shot half way through the season. If the club wanted to do the right thing by him long term, why wouldn't they put him in for surgery?

I think they were happy to let him "talk" them into playing, as he would have wanted to, knowing he had to prove himself to keep his spot. Can't fault him, he was damned if he did, damned if he didn't.

I'm merely saying I think the writing was on the wall for him the day Wallace went.

reminds us all of how quick he was and how how good a kick he was off both feet

Yep he certainly was.

The shame in all this is that he was cut down by injury in his prime and never regained those hights again. He certainly was elite in his time, but what a shocking injury and a tragedy to a guy who was primed to become one of the truly elite

I remember feeling the most devastated I have ever felt as a Tigers supporter that night he broke his leg. He was in rare form, had kicked 34 goals in 9 games and we were flying. As per usual, something always goes wrong whenever there is some hope. Was one of my favourite players, and I still reckon we could have kept him for another year, simply for his skill and nouse, which is what we lack in bucket loads.

I felt the same way when that happened :'(
