Nathan (Axel) Foley [MERGED]

there was a piece of play last week...the play was going around the boundary towards essendons goal at the punt road end..foley and his opponent were running along side the play but 20 or so metres from the action..foleys man took off and sprinted towards goal..foley was so busy watching the play and jogging along side it he didn't notice until his man was 50 yards away and along in the forward zone..resulted in an easy bomber goal....i reckon that moment sealed his fate

Think Axel will be much better in 2014 if he can get an uninterrupted pre-season under his belt. His delayed start to 2013 due to his achilles has been ....well ....his Achilles this year and he has struggled to have an impact. So decision to leave him out tomorrow, although a tough call, is the correct one IMO.

Hasn't recovered his former speed and his foot skills have been poor. Not surprised he's been dropped. Will certainly need a strong 2014 Pre-season. Plenty of others such as Arnott putting up their hand for his spot.

I'm actually really worried that dropping foley now is not good..
Last week I said foley will be lucky to be in team. Not thinking coach would actually drop him..
But now I think I would have him ahead of Newman.. It doesn't sit with me Newman missing 3 games then straight in..
This is a final not a round 14 game..
Hope I'm wrong and Newman plays hard and direct..

It's bad luck for Axel, I know his disposal has been off a bit but we will really miss his tackling, blocking and shepherds.
Petterd probably got the nod for team balance reasons, I think he'll play as a defensive forward.

I was a bit shocked initially ,

Then the more I thought about it , the more I thought , ive hardly noticed him lately.

Would be a shame for him if he misses out while the team is on the rise considering how much he used to bust his guts when we were crap.

Disposal has been poor the last few weeks.

Still might get a game if we have a late change.

I think Foley was sacrificed for Tuck. Edwards is more alike but I think he was coming in anyway.

I'm a big fan of Axel's best work but his ball use even by hand has been trending the wrong way recently and nobody cannot afford to get lost.

I hope we win this game so Foley can force his way back into the side. BTW I would be amazed if Foley had not been advised of the areas he had to work on. He would not be surprised.

In his defence he's had to play crash and bash for a living in our slightly unstable midfield. And for much of the early season he was bulletproof by foot. (When he played more outside.)

I am a Petterd fan but if Axel had played mop from the get go his disposal might be razor sharp by now. And he is one who can read the fall.

Agree.

I also think Pettard gets a run because he has shown some defensive ability, and Morris cannot shut down all those small Blue forwards. Pettard gives us an potion for this game that Axel didn't.

Does this mean that Richmond will entertain a trade for Foley this season? Could free up some room on the salary cap. The club may be thinking it is better to let Foley go than Conca.

Assuming he wants to stay, I think we keep him for two reasons.

1. I have no doubt the potential is there for him to get back into the side. Look at Jacko this year
2. Limited trade value. Won't get for him what he is worth to the team.

After I thought a bit about the Essendon game I tagged Foley as possibly one to go. I think Petterd would also have sat this one out if White hadn't been injured.

Knew mid-week he probably wouldn't play. Nothing wrong with the achillies but the season caught up with him and he's burnt out.

Hate to lose him but with Arnott, Helbig on his heals we would be silly not to talk to teams that have openly stated they want midfielders.
