Nankervis !!

I thought his game was huge. Beaten in the first half but as he's done in previous games, he's overrun his opponent as the game wore on, exactly like the Tigers did as a team. Ended up all over him and here's a stat that proves his worth; Jacobs pressure acts 4, Nankervis 20. Many pundits were predicting the ruck was where Adelaide were going to get the ascendancy. No, because Nanks is in effect an extra midfielder. We win.

The Crows went to him after the Sloan goal. Tried to get in his head. Nank went at Sauce ferociously at the next few bounces. Superb response.

Totally agree with your post, like L2R2R's above. Nank was wonderful, especially getting all over Jacobs in the 2nd half. Seemed to jump all over him. Must have had plenty of that pickle juice. But the greatest bit of good fortune was that he didn't get injured. It was a huge risk going into a GF with only only one true ruck.

But the stars aligned. What a game; what a year!

some wise pundits knew that Nank would beat Jacobs as long as we werent dominated around the ground.
Good ruckman is Jacobs, but around the ground he gets a lot of easy ball as a loose link man. there was no easy ball for him on Saturday.
meanwhile Nank was getting dirty winning the ball and helping our mids.

I thought it was a tail of 2 halves. Nank got so much confidence in the 2nd half with big leaps and beat Jacobs. 1st half I felt belonged to Jacobs(J is fantastic ruckman).

Begs the question, 'why wasn't Nankervis ferocious from the start'?

It is a GF and someone needs a spark to go up an extra gear?

Jacobs’ effort would have dropped when he realised they were shot just as Nank’s spring get higher when that winning feeling comes. Doesn’t mean Nancy didn’t give it his all.

not rated very highly in the jack dyer medal

i am disappointed with that - we couldn't have won it without him during the season

Has happened pretty much every final. Nankervis not as influential in the first half but gets on top on the 2nd half. I put that mainly down to the opposition ruckman tiring and not being able to jump as high as they can early in the game. Nankervis also has an unbelievable tank. We have to concede he is shorter than most ruckman and doesn't have the same leap as some so that is one area we are going to have to give up a little.

Agree that Nank wears down opponents, and his second halves have been impressive.

I was more questioning Knighter suggesting that Nank improved after the Crows tried to intimidate him.

Wish we had 2 of him

I would be more than happy to play 1 foward and 1 ruck

Nank could kick 40-50 goals as a full time fwd , Kid marks the ball beautifully and tackles hard and kicks straight

Blair 'Nankervis' Hartley might just have saved his bacon with this one.
What a recruit Toby was for us in 2017!
Gave the team much needed backbone that wasn't there just 12 months ago and has been a huge reason for our Premiership win.
Always putting his body into the contest or there with the crucial mark at the right time.
Bloody great season by the big man who pretty much rucked lonesome all season apart from a couple of cameos from Soldo.
Just a huge effort from Toby & one that really needs to be recognised.

Agree huge season. Bit miffed that he didn't even place in the top 10 at the JDM. That seems odd to me given how important he was to our structure all year.

Staggering really. Given we were able to win well without Jack, I would have had him at least 7th in the JDM. And Grigg (6th) couldn't have held down first ruck!

Agree. Towards seasons end when the game was clearly ours Hardwick filled the bench with Martin, Rance, Cotchin and Nankervis.

How he didnt figure in the top 10 JD is a bit of a head scratch.

I'm of the same opinion here guys.

Without him I doubt we could have won it.

Lost the h/o but his work around the ground, he became an extra midfielder.

Staggered he didn't poll in the top 10. Really surprised by that.

He's been a fantastic pickup, but I wasn't surprised by his JDM placing.

We got belted by a lot of rucks this year. A few of his opponents were close to best on ground in too many games for mine.
