Beveridge obviously has credibility but I think he's exaggerating there, plenty of other coaches have been brought undone by completely disregarding ruckman, Grant Thomas springs to mind.
 
I think there's an element of truth with regards to the value of rucks. Sandi absolutely walloped Geelong in the ruck, 20 HOTA, but Geelong smashed Freo on the scoreboard. The Dogs & Hawthorn don't really have a notable ruck, Geelong had Ottens but his value was also as a resting forward. The last great premiership ruck was Dean Cox but he was more a midfielder anyway.
 
Freo won hitouts 63 to 18 and got walloped.

7 teams that won hitouts this round lost the game.

If one was going to draw conclusions on the value of hitouts, it might be that you're better off losing them.

And 14 contested possies. Dud Hampson get that many for the whole season? Nankervis has made a huge difference to our side.
 
Monster game from Nank. He was visibly knackered towards the end lf the 3rd and continued to give his all right until the end.

Loved the shimmy too
 
he is exceeding my expectations, and they were pretty high. Huge in the last Q, classic tough ruck game.
