Nanks-27 hit outs 48% to advantage, Kreuzer 39, with 33% to advantage.
They got 2 goals each, Nanks 3 clearances and no critical errors, Kreuzer 4 clearances and 3 critical errors.
Kreuzer 15 disposals, 8 contested to Nanks 8 disposals 6 contested, Kreuzer 4 marks, 1 contested, Nanks 3 marks, 3 contested.
Nanks may have been just shaded last night, but he was still very good, his overall game is very good and he has heaps of improvement in him.

yes & only 22

Let's not forget Kruezer was a #1 pick and has now been in the AFL system for 10 years. Been cruelled by injury but he' still a quality player probably at the peak age for a ruckman (27yo). Quiet at times but I was impressed with Nankervis, particularly the quality of his hit outs and his strong marking. Is only going to get better and will compete very well with most ruckmen. My main concern is wearing him out so early in his career. We don't have a lot in the way of backup for him.

I like that when he wins a hit out he actually palms/guides the down to the intended recipient, unlike Hampson who thinks just getting first hand to the ball is enough.

Liked his game a lot. Hit outs to our advantage was so much better.

Kruezer shaded him just but as others have said, he will only get better.

Concern as well that he needs help but at least when he rests forward he will cause headaches.

Only young in his career.

Great pick up.

Love the fact he follows up on his work and not afraid to get his hands dirty and use his 100 kg frame.

I hear you Tlove, but hes built like a Landcruiser Ute, and he's Tasmanian. He'll be pretty hard to wear out.

I reckon he's a Troop Carrier easy, and he will carry his teammates a long way :clap

More than happy with the Big Nank's first game for us, got plenty of second efforts n heavy work from him to help out his little mids. Matched performance pretty bloody well against Kruze n when he's fully fit n in shape he's a more than handy player.

I thought our man was beaten in the ruck. But fought back from being well-beaten.

I'm always happy to marginally lose the ruck. Nank was only a bit behind the minimum IMO. Needed to get closer to Kreuzer when the veteran was getting off the leash. And have a more consistent presence.

As has been mentioned, he's a rucklad.

Once the ball hits the ground, he isn't a bystander. He follows up with the tackle or clearance.
I also think he is in the elite class(for a ruckman) when it comes to contested marking. His field kicking needs improving, although the actual way he kicks (hand to foot) is excellent for someone his height.
I wanted Naismith instead of this guy, I now think we made the right choice.

Watching the replay, i'm not sure if he knew the words to our song :hihi

Hitout to advantage 48%

Uncharted waters that high. Gawn went at 34% last year to lead the AFL..

If he can run for the year at 34% being first ruck we are flying.

Will only get better with more work. Reckon he's a top 5 ruck by 2019.

Thought Vodka Cruiser played pretty well but Nank made the AFL team of the week as first ruck.
Not bad for his first game with us! :D

Really - didn't see that but am impressed.

I thought Kruezer beat him on the night but who am I to know.

Grumpy will also give him a big work over this Thursday as he is more influential around the ground where Kruezer is slowing down a bit now with age and injury - Carlton pushed him pretty hard in his younger days and paying for it now. Can't believe he and scotch were in the same draft

If you want to see how important an around the ground ruckman is, and how completely irrelevant tap outs are, have a look at sandilands game on the weekend.

God I'm glad we've got Nankervis.

It was also interesting to see Luke Beveridge's comments on ruckman. If you don't have one that's any good around the ground, you could forego the ruck and play an extra midfielder. No coincidence that he was coach of the year and won a premiership.
