MRP

This is complete BS.
35 other players on the ground and not one other managed to touch an umpire.
The guy is a gun but a dumbarse one at that.
Yeh, just serendipity that for years players have managed to get out of the way of the umps. Stevic should be demoted for his insolence.

The AFL are considering an appeal.
Shades of Houli.
Reckon they take public reaction into consideration on these things, and there's enough who believe 3 weeks is about right. But if the AFL believes it was worth 6 minimum and he only got half, they are compelled to appeal. I suspect they won't.

No love for umpires, but he was very fair at the hearing. Thought he tried his best to help Greene

AFL have to do this.
Ok..... but where were they when Hawkins swatted the umpire away who clearly was aggrieved at the time by yelling. .."Don't touch me!"...

And again, Neale aggressively made contact earlier this year for a *smile* weak fine!

Where was the McLachlan outrage then?

Dunno why the umpires are sacred objects. You can’t brush them. You can’t critique them. You can’t swear at them. You can’t tell them they got it wrong (Most of them) You can’t call them cheating bastards (deboy). Bloody Prima donnas with the ultimate say (razor ray)

It’s a load of *smile*.
They should be held accountable.
If they cheat, tell them in words they can understand.
If they stand in the way, it’s their fault. Give them a light shirtfront.
If they get decisions wrong, let them know.
If they keep paying unjustified decisions or don’t pay the frees that are there, let them know they’ll be appearing on YouTube clips.

If they or the AFL complain, the umpires can *smile* off and they can give each team captain a whistle.
Bastards!

Completely agree and on the weekend there was contact with an umpire much worse than Greene's in the Bummers Doggies game.

Honestly think Greene was lucky not to get more.
Agree TOO.

I think plays should never touch an umpire; never swear at an umpire; never call them a cheat. There should be no tolerance or leeway for any of that.

Instead, the AFL should pay them to be full-time, train them, simplify the rules and remove interpretations.

One of the worst things about the World Game version of football is the players up in the grill of and constant pawing at the ref after a perceived wrong. This needs to be avoided at all costs.

I don't care for umpires. It should be there responsibility to get out of the way and stay out of the way. They have a function to ensure the rules as written are not breached. That's it. Too much "stay out of it", "don't do that", "let him go". Enforce a proper rule or shut up.
If a player accidentally bowls an umpire over in general play, bad luck I say. Umpire shouldn't have been in the play.

However, deliberate contact is different and should be penalised. No way Toby didn't deliberately nudge the umpire. My 2c.

Fair enough. There should have been an outcry when Neale got off with a fine with something not much less than Greene.

Inconsistency and utter confusion are the hallmarks of the AFL.
When trying to make sense of it one should drink copious amounts of rotgut and severely beat one’s head with any heavy object.

Gil McLachlan is a tosser...
and this reflects throughout an institution called the AFL that itself is "manifestly inadequate"

Green should take it to court, if Toby Mitchell can just get a $2,5000 fine, community service and good behavior bond for 2 street brawls:rolleyes: I'd like his chances :)

By the way i doubt anyone would report Toby, (Mitchell that is), if he failed to perform his community service.

Soon as I saw it, I believed Greene's actions were intentional and deliberate.
Completely unnecessary and such a disappointment for his club in its finals quest.
He's bloody lucky to have only got three weeks.
The young man needs to pull his head in, have a good long hard look at himself and focus on playing team footy. the rest is just nonsense.
