Mid season Draft

Not really the thread for it but if any do-gooder/redeemer thinks Tarryn Thomas deserves another shot this surely must end their delusion, some blokes don't deserve a second chance let alone third, fourth chances.

If he could show evidence he had reformed his ways for 2 or 3 years, then maybe, but even before this charge the idea that 6 months out of the news meant he should be given another chance was always foolish.

And if the Scott brothers are so concerned for his welfare ("like a son" i think one said), im sure there is nothing to stop them going out of their way to help him, even if he isnt on their list and he cant help them win football games. (unless of course the winning was always more important than the helping?)

Yes, but an experienced state leaguer can be a 100 gamer too, eg John Noble, possibly Marlion.

I still lean towards getting state leaguers, possibly on a 6 month contract, and play them in the AFL. No use getting them to play VFL, they would’ve shown they can play well at state league level.

Scribes keep saying there’s slim pickings for the MSD, I say *smile*. There’s 700 state leaguers out there, there’s many who could rise to play at AFL level.

Collingwood have introduced Lachie Sullivan, (26) and Joe Richards (24), both who have looked very comfortable at this level. They’re out there.

The young uns we’ll get in the ND come November.
Sound approach, tim. But I reckon this Noah Howes kid is an exception. If we can get an 18-year-old key forward who's currently first or second in the SANFL for contested marks, and who looks better than ND prospects only a few months younger, I say we get a state-leaguer with our second pick.

I agree some experienced state league player's are worth having a punt on,but only if your club is a possible finals contender.
A really good young player is a better option for clubs in a partial rebuild ,we have plenty of experienced player's ,we need to be looking at the future .

Heaps of gun players in the 21-26 age bracket have come from state leagues.

They have plenty of time left to impact our club medium to long term. If they are good enough of course.

I still think smalls might be the better option than talls in the MSD. The talls are really long shots to make it IMO.

There are 3 on this list that I can see us taking. Hall (22), Gentile (21) and Smartt (18) are probably good options for us. Velissario probably too old and I don't know about Hutchison. Small sample size IMO.

I agree l wouldn't take a tall in the MSD .
Smartt is a good player,l have mentioned him before ,my only query about him is his endurance ,seems to drop off a bit after half time .

Heaps, have they gone on and played over a 100 games.

Noah is a young kid and it shows. If we want a development player I see a 196 forward who is mobile but I do not see any elite traits. He has played 6 games only in an inferior league and his stats are not startling; 9 goals, 24 marks (11 contested), <2 tackles per game, ave 7 disposals . He is not a pack buster and needs a lot of experience to develop any forward craft. He is not Souths key forward and as a kid does not demand the ball nor out muscle the key defenders. All this is understandable if we want a development player but does he have more potential than Sam Davidson/Archie May ? For me a player should have at least one elite trait, and hopefully a couple of above average before we even consider them.

The Tigers are considered a strong chance to pick in-form Peel Thunder key defender Blight, in part because Josh Gibcus (knee) is out for the season and Dylan Grimes may retire at season’s end.

Must be good if he's better than Mutaz.

I don't know about picking up a couple of needed players in the mid season draft but I wish we could pick up an effective and functioning strength and conditioning team right now

If they take Blight I hope they don't move Miller back to the forward line to accommodate him. I'd rather persist with Balta up forward and slot in Bauer when he is fit to provide an extra marking target. Is he a better prospect than Young?
