Mid season Draft

I like Davidson ,he has some good qualities ,but does he do enough ?
I would like him to string together some decent games, but does have some potential.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us take Joe Pike 203 cm ruck,he played his first VFL game on the weekend and was impressive from what l read.
Naismith was brought in as back up ruck but will be out for around 12 months ,and also whether they keep him on the list .

Yeah I think we will take a ruck too as I don't think Naismith will be given another contract by the AFL team. I suspect we might offer him a VFL deal as some sort of player coach though, he won't be offered a deal at any other stand alone club for next year IMO purely because he will miss half the season with his recovery.

I don't think they've definitively stated that yet, but even so, it may impact our ability to trade. Its a risk, so why would you take players now that are longer shots than what we might take at the ND, when we could still take these players then. The AFL are so slow and have no foresight of these things impacting clubs behaviour.
There would be an uproar not just from us if they changed it this year. Its not happening don't worry.
MSD gives us 6mnths to get the kid into the system and ready for next year rather than wait 6mnths.
Take someone like Archie May.I reckon he would blossom in a full time environment.Give him 6mnths too prove it.A 6mth test drive so too speak.

The mid season prospects aren't the same as the ND prospects as such. Mid season blokes are already playing senior footy somewhere and these potentials are more the kids that just missed in their draft year or were a bit slower to mature and focus seriously on their footy careers. There's always a large amount of talent gets overlooked at ND draft time and quite a few then mature into AFL capable footballers while playing in the lesser leagues but simply never get another opportunity.
Pick up a quality young bloke or two performing at State league levels in the mid season draft simply gives you 6 months head start on anyone that you'd pick up as a late mature pick in the ND.
Bauer we drafted on an 18 month deal n while only managing 4 games so far would have been extremely helpful this year if he hadn't hit an ongoing injury drama.
Coulthard drafted as more of a hail Mary pick has managed a game n another who's been having some injury issues keeping him from perhaps getting a few more games this year.
Hardly need to make mention of Kane Lambert's career with us. While he was a late rookie draft selection, he could just as easily been someone's mid season pick up during all those years he was slumming around at VFL level.
There's stacks of talent out there, just gotta make sure the homework has been properly done and make sure we pick the right option, rather than perhaps going in as an afterthought and maybe picking a couple of blokes purely because we've got a lot of injuries and maybe a someone might help fill a whole. The one type that I hope we steer well clear of is someone who's been 3 or 4 years on an AFL list somewhere, scrubbed up a few games n then having a season at the lower levels in the hope n pretence that all of a sudden they're going to step up n become a player.

If he could show evidence he had reformed his ways for 2 or 3 years, then maybe, but even before this charge the idea that 6 months out of the news meant he should be given another chance was always foolish.

And if the Scott brothers are so concerned for his welfare ("like a son" i think one said), im sure there is nothing to stop them going out of their way to help him, even if he isnt on their list and he cant help them win football games. (unless of course the winning was always more important than the helping?)
What the scott brothers really mean is ,I want to recruit him.

Agree. Only way Naismith stays is salary cap, which i doubt.
So we'll need to draft a ruck.

I agree l wouldn't take a tall in the MSD .
Smartt is a good player,l have mentioned him before ,my only query about him is his endurance ,seems to drop off a bit after half time .
Liam George from our vfa would be in the mix i reckon

We have a development KPF now in Fawcett. Does anyone know if he is likely to play at all this season because he has been listed as “back TBA” for a long time now?

To me if we are likely to pick up a tall forward in the ND i can’t see the point of getting another young developing one now with the Tap already on the list. This season itself Is a write off so we need to draft for the future not the next 13 weeks.

Not many well be on 18months tho.
So far its only been a couple like Jai Newcomb who were guaranteed to be picked up by the hawks from their vfl side.

No stress in taking 3 players on a 6 month contact

Yep 127 players have nominated and 26 have put contracts 18 months or longer on themselves.

I would imagine the players that have had clubs speaking to them are the ones that have nominated the 18 months contracts.
