Mid season Draft

The Tigers are considered a strong chance to pick in-form Peel Thunder key defender Blight, in part because Josh Gibcus (knee) is out for the season and Dylan Grimes may retire at season’s end.
Seems to struggle to hit a target .
Plenty of turnovers on his highlight package.

He looks very composed, big unit. Just not sure another tall back is what we need .
I’m not sure we are all that flash in the key defender area , actually don’t think we are flash in any area at the moment , maybe re draft Gordon

I'd go:
1. Davidson - best young utility available so more chance of slotting in, great running power, tall enough to compete aerially, decent at ground level, scope to improve if have to offer 18 mths
2. Mutaz - close to proven quantity; similarly young with real scope to improve
3. Blight, Howes or best still there if any (a hard mid for pot luck or take no-one else)

Mindful of what other clubs (as reported on here) are looking at, so as not to miss out. Don't want to miss Mutaz but his current LTI should discourage other clubs with pressing holes due to injuries like us and Lions, and mean we can develop him as we wish in future. Need for backs/KPDs not so pressing though.

I think the several posters who have pointed out our likely retirements, switches and delistings end of season, prove we can afford these picks, especially if only for 6 mths. After all, if must agree to 18, look how long we have had players like Miller, RCD listed etc.

Will depend on what contract players out on.

We might not want to commit list spots to everyone on 18 month contracts.

6 months - not so much of a problem.

There will be long term players come from the draft though. We just need to pick em Craggles.
Not many well be on 18months tho.
So far its only been a couple like Jai Newcomb who were guaranteed to be picked up by the hawks from their vfl side.

No stress in taking 3 players on a 6 month contact

I suspect we will use at least 1, but the AFL still not announcing changes to the ND bidding process will probably push our hand a little and either only offer short term contracts (and interstate talent for obvious reasons might not be willing to move states for a 6 month contract) or not take many picks at all. Talks of us taking 3 or 4 is crazy, we would be aiming for these players to be on our list for a number of years and with 9 ND picks currently and uncertainty around the bidding process and therefore our ability and confidence to trade those picks then it will make us 2nd guess what to doat the MSD.
Pretty sure i read somewhere that the bidding system won't be changed until next year.

I don't think they've definitively stated that yet, but even so, it may impact our ability to trade. Its a risk, so why would you take players now that are longer shots than what we might take at the ND, when we could still take these players then. The AFL are so slow and have no foresight of these things impacting clubs behaviour.

I like Davidson ,he has some good qualities ,but does he do enough ?
I would like him to string together some decent games, but does have some potential.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us take Joe Pike 203 cm ruck,he played his first VFL game on the weekend and was impressive from what l read.
Naismith was brought in as back up ruck but will be out for around 12 months ,and also whether they keep him on the list .
