Melbourne

Hawthorn need to contain them in the first quarter. I saw them blitz Sydney only to be inaccurate, then virtually grind to a halt. The same was evident against Geelong, except Geelong were hopeless. Although I think viney is a great addition to at least allow them to lock down in the middle.

If Melbourne can get through I think they can beat up the Weagles, but won't get near us in a GF. Think the Weagles could cause us some problems unless we win the midfield battle in which case we will smash them

I thought Melbourne were very impressive against Geelong, but it's a fair point about whether Geelong provided very stiff opposition.....early on in most games, particularly Finals, it's very fast and brutal in close and most teams making the finals are capable of keeping that up for a period of time....its just how long they can do it is the problem. Cats proved to be incapable of keeping it up.

Hawks present a tougher challenge for Melbourne but unless they improve a fair bit on the game against us, Melbourne should grind them down. Mitchell and O'Meara are class acts, but don't think they have the grunt of Oliver, Viney, Jones et al. It's all academic though as Neither Melb or Hawks can get past West Coast over there ....

Hawthorns best chance is its keepings off footy and its forwards impacting.

Melbournes backline does not have the ability to shut out Breust, Roughie, Gunston, Poppy and Smith if they get enough opportunities they could trouble Melbourne.

Frawley at least breaks even with Tommy Mac and thats a big win for the Hawks.

Deez will win inside the key is for the Hawks to try and get them on the outside.

My fear is that because Hawthorn are pretty ordinary - Melbourne will get over them on Fri night.
Then they'll head to Perth with even more hype than now.
And the simple fact is that if they get on a roll over there - in the way the Coll seemed to rattle the Eagles - they could win that too.
God save us all if they get to the Granny - the hype then would be monumental

There's so much Melbourne love and hype this week that there is every chance that they throw up all over themselves against Hawthorn.

Melbourne is every chance to wilt if Hawthorn brings the same pressure they did against us. But they're more likely to give West Coast a tough game in Perth, and maybe even beat them, whereas Hawthorn's limitations make it unlikely they could push the Eagles.

Hawthorn love playing the dees. Slapped them earlier in the year. If Melbourne can get past them it wouldn’t surprise me if they make it to the GF. As we all know - Momentum is massive this time of year.

Hawks have beaten Dees 5 of the last 6 and 15 of last 16, so their style holds up very well against them

I’m waiting for Robo to say Melbourne can make the Grand Final and win.
Next sentence tips Hawthorn to win the semifinal

I think Smelbourne will out-run the Dawks in the 2nd half especially and apply too much speed and pressure overall. They will exact some revenge for past failures this time, maybe even a big win if they can avoid kicking 1.10 in a couple of quarters.

But then they will have to beat Weagles, probably in warm weather after that long flight, with JK and Darling back and finding some form. I was impressed how WCE ran that final out against the Scum.

Even if they manage to win in Perth, the Dees could well be looking for a lie down in the last Q of a GF.

Ooh, if Melbourne win, the hype will be enormous, especially since they beat West Coast recently. Then if they beat West Coast watch it ramp up again.

I have no problem with this, after so many years making the Grand Final will be big news.

In fact, I'd love to see it. We could repeat '74 when everyone was going for North to break the drought and win their first flag. Then we beat North to go back to back. Sounds like fun to me ;D

There. I said it.
Back now.
Likewise & Agree. (I am glad for their supporters but not in the year that the Tiges are fighting for the flag too :) )

I've had to travel abroad and hard to see replays. Melbourne I fear now most. They are a momentum team.
How did they beat WC? Wc can slip down next week?

Like wise, there up an about like us last year, no doubt the Eagles will be a huge challenge for them but there such a cocky bunch they’ll believe they can beat anyone

I reckon we are better than Melbourne, but they are not far behind us and clearly the second best team. However I don't think they make the GF, as West Coast will come to play in their home preliminary.

If they do make the gf , I’m hoping the tougher run , particularly going over West and flying back in the last week will take its toll ,

But I have a bigger fear than playing Melbourne,

And that is not making the gf at all and they do make it , next week will not be a walk in the park .
