Maurice Rioli Jnr

Surely he had some excellent traits as a teenager? We didn't just recruit him based on his name did we?
From WIKI - For a third straight season, Rioli played for St Mary's in the 2019/20 summer and into early autumn, ahead of his final year of underage football.[16][17] He played nine games in the season, with his most impressive performance coming with a best-on-ground four goals in a semi-final win, before adding one goal in St Mary's losing grand final showing the following week.
Start of 2021...he was a stand-out performer at AFL reserves level, kicking two goals and recording 17 disposals in the opening round of the VFL season that same weekend.[38][39] He was an AFL emergency regularly over the month that followed, while continuing to play VFL football as a small forward with occasional stints in the midfield.[40][41] In May, Richmond senior coach Damien Hardwick labelled Rioli close to AFL selection, but said he would require a stronger endurance base before he could be named for a debut.
He needs to be fitter, but perhaps Dimma blunted his flair by making him a defensive forward? Or, he didn't have that top grade skillset? Lets see how he goes when he is properly fit.
He’s only excellent trait imho is his run down tackling

Is my memory playing tricks? I recall him calmly slotting what should have been the winning goal against the Cats in the Prestia knockout game. He looked a lot more than a chase down tackler at that stage.

He's definitely capable of very good play. Reckon a lot of his errors are due to the taxing role he's asked to play.
If his fitness is down then that's probably amplified some of that. Still like Cumberland you need to be exceptional to be a specialised forward in the AFL.

Appears leaner in those highlights. Also: Stackman.

Unfit for me to much baulk.
:rotfl2 :rotfl2Ummm baulk generally means to hesitate or be reluctant to do something, in sporting terms it's often used to describe a side step to avoid contact or create space. Think ya mighta been looking at bulk, which if ya reckon Moju's unfit would be considered as fat n chunky.

There’s no team rule or role restriction that prevents MoJu from picking up the ball. He is free to pick up the ball. He’s just struggling with this.

Play the kids! Play the kids! We did that with Maurice. Did it help?

Maurice is short on development. And confidence. He’s had an injury interrupted year. And form issues as well.

Btw our youngster is not usually at his best first week in the Magoos. He’s young, remember.

Why do coaches play forwards back? Why have they done that for decades? Mainly to get the ball in their hands. You get three touches minimum at hbf for every one you get in a forward pocket.

Maurice should be getting time in the guts at VFA level and learning to sit behind the ball. If he still can’t get it after a month he goes to hbf.

Pick up the ball, Maurice. And again. And again.

Watched Bobby Hill sat night
Unfortunately MRJ is a long way off cementing a permanent spot
He cant mark . Isn’t super quick and can’t read the drop of the ball

Bobby Hill was an early 2nd rd pick who is 2 years older than MRJr. He struggled for a game last year at the Giants. Shows things can turn around quickly.

Yep
Oleg Markov is the perfect example
Now being played to his strengths, as Bobby Hill is
Let me know when and if you find out Junior’s strengths as I am battling to find them . Tackling maybe one, although the AFL don’t reward the tackler much anymore

People have lost their minds here. He was awesome last year. Hugely important player. See

Unfortunately he is rubbish this year, along with Sonsie and Cumberland. A big reason we have struggled. He has the talent, but we need to get these guys performing again!!
The way those 3 have declined is puzzling we're best 22 last year our development has been poor to. MJ needs to get fit and use his footy smarts let's him down fitness and conditioning big iissue.Sonsie needs to lift his work rate not just coasting around.

A total of 2 tackles so much for his renowned defensive tackling locking the ball in the forward line
Needs quality time in the VFL till he starts being first to the ball and gets more than 10 posessions
