It would be interesting to know the thought process behind appointing someone from within the club as recruiting manager. We have been light years behind the likes of Sydney, Bulldogs and Hawthorn in the period since 2009 which was when Matt started with the club.

Is that the club thinks the picks weren't that bad but devolpment was the problem? Was it that Matt's picks were much better than Frank's but he was overruled?

It would have been a much easier sell to the members if they had got someone from an elite recruiting department like the Swans, Bulldogs or Hawks.

Good luck to Matt. If he doesn't significantly improve on the efforts of the past the drought will get much longer.

Good post. Agree muchly.

How can he be appointed to recruiting manager after all the failures the club has endured since coming to the club? If he was overruled then those above should be gone. We should have freshened recruiting up from top to bottom.

You would think after 30 years of failure the club would realise the biggest issue has been recruiting but no it's far more important to get some big name assistants to try and cover up your mistake in extending.
Just so depressing , and let's not get started on the disgrace that Blair Hartley is still list manager.

can only hope Frank was a "my way or the highway" type of "leader" of his dept & that now someone else will get some input.
i wouldn't know if i am right or not tho as only a wild guess

Watched the final of the Recruit tonight. Only time I've ever watched it. I found it interesting that Clarke was at the draft table with Bargain Blair. Not sure if it means he's the guy now or whether *smile* is above this reality TV crap.

Hard to tell on that show from who they sent. One of the people on North's table was Jack Ziebell.

LOL. Didn't notice that. Guess some teams take it more serious than others.

Couldn't believe GWS pitched for the winner. Would struggle to get a game for their 2's

In the other season of Recruit the other players were also up for being recruited ( ie Geelong took Padraigh Lucy) so I wonder why no-one didn't have a crack at Jackson Sketcher.

Won the Morrish medal 8 years ago and will be top3 in Frankstons b&f (yes, its just Frankston but they have provided Lloyd, Baguley, Hibberd, Dickson over the last few years)

Good post. Nothing against Clarke, but IMO this position is more important than Balme and second or equal to the head coach. We seem to have given it to a good bloke within the club without a thorough and ruthless search for the best available in the land. Seems we still don't take recruiting seriously

Yep the club has been lauding the sweeping changes made and yet to be made but when it all comes down to it all they have done in this extremely important department is shuffle the deck chairs on the Titanic. From what has been reported not one key person has been added to the recruiting department and the architect of the department's failure over the past 10 years has been offered a consulting role

Clarke has been part of arguably the worst recruiting department in the AFL for the past 10 years. We seriously need new blood in this area; new input and fresh idea. But of course the RFC once again refuses to acknowledge the obvious.

Apparently some of the nuff nuffs around here are actually excited about all the BIG changes the club has made. Bunch of peanuts all round. ::)

Got a feeling that they pitched for Wagner as well in the show's first season. They'll go after anything that's on offer. Mick said that a number of the players spent most of last season playing VFL level football after the show wrapped up.

we'll give him 8 years to see if he is any good.

Arguably the worst , on what basis , we made three finals series amd most certainly didn't win the least number of games in that period . Quit the melodrama and use a genuine measuring stick

Well BJ who is worse than us? Maybe Carlton and that is it.

Brisbane has a poor list due to player wanting to leave not because their list was poor in the first place.
Essendon will have a better list than us next year.
Freo have been at the top for too long and have to do their time at the bottom.

The first measure over the same period would be games won and lost
The next measure would be final series
The next measure is flags

On that basis where are we ranked over last 7 years ?
