We can all back roughies JD, but not many of them win.

because when people get announced as leaving you don't take their title away from them before they are gone. That is perfectly normalBullarto Tiger said:As a part-time recruiting consultant, Jackson might be able to sniff out a "roughie" every now and then for the attention of the new recruiting staff ... but for all intents and purposes, Jackson's days are done and dusted at RFC.

Dev Tiger said:I would have much preferred someone who hasn't been a part of the Frank Jackson Era to head up our recruiting. Hopefully they reviewed all his phantom drafts and he has had very different ideas to Frank. Good luck to Matt but I am very underwhelmed by the appointment.
Aegean Tiger said:Biggest indictment on the club is that we don't have a player in the under 22 All Aus team. Hope Clarky's new template can produce some guns.
Obviously you would know Kmac better than I from meeting him while working around the club.Texaspinksock said:Kmac is not what you would call a solid citizen
Im refering to football not his life. When people say a player is a solid citizen they mean average nothing special playerRedanTiger said:Obviously you would know Kmac better than I from meeting him while working around the club.
I was merely going from this bit on his recruitment:
"While life is about to change significantly for McIntosh, it is also about to get a whole lot busier in the Pinjarra family’s household where he has been a father figure
in a real-life version of The Brady Bunch." https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/regional/north-west/a/15541143/mcintosh-is-richmond-bound/#page1

Clarke worked with Jackson for 7 years after Jackson appointed him in 2009 because they shared values. After Clarke joined he found Jackson leaned more towards the Miller style of "vibe" picks like Dea, Taylor, Webberley, McDonald and Conca. This was against the Clarke method of collecting lots of personal data via surveys to ensure that "while talent is key, good character is also essential to fit in." http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2013-12-16/tiger-talent-scout-coup.

tigertim said:Funny you write this ( see bolded above) as mentioned a few months ago on the Francis Jackson thread if he used a "hunch" ( or "vibe" as you call it) when picking some players.
Hampson blows that theory awayse7en said:Reminds me of the movie Moneyball:
Grady Fuson: Artie, who do you like?
Scout Artie: I like Perez. He’s got a classy swing, it’s a real clean stroke.
Scout Barry: He can’t hit the curve ball.
Scout Artie: Yeah, there’s some work to be done, I’ll admit that.
Scout Barry: Yeah, there is.
Scout Artie: But he’s noticeable.
Matt Keough: And an ugly girlfriend.
Scout Barry: What does that mean?
Matt Keough: Ugly girlfriend means no confidence.
Scout Barry: Okay.
John Poloni: Oh, now, you guys are full of it, Artie’s right. This guy’s got an attitude and an attitude is good. I mean it’s the kind of guy who walks into a room his *smile* has already been there for two minutes.
Scout Pote: He passes the eye candy test. He’s got the looks, he’s great at playing the part. He just needs to get some playing time.
Matt Keough: I’m just saying his girlfriend is a six at best.
wammo said:Off topic, but if Ellis made the AA under 22 squad 3 years running, wouldn't that put him close to being a straight swap for Prestia? Or is my impatience with Brandon's game getting the better of me.?
RedanTiger said:What I looked at in regard to those players were things like:
Dea was publicised as the pick Jackson made after hiding behind a tree to avoid alerting other clubs to HIS discovery.
Taylor had well publicised problems with the law well before we picked him. If you go back you can see stuff about backing Richmond to fix his problems.
Webberley was picked out of Tasmania as a speedy, long precision kicking HB. While he was rated, it was in a low standard league.
Dean McDonald was selected from Gippsland as a goal kicker. Even Jackson was confused. As I noted on a past signature he was initially called by Jackson a key forward at 184cm.
Conca said himself that he thought he would be selected at 16. He was not even on the "top ten" list that the AFL flew to Qld.
I live in the country. My only info on these players is what I read on here, from the club and in the press.
Texas pink sock, I understand you're new to this site and you're busy with your other jobs at the club but try to read the posts.
I was making the point that Clarke's focus is on personal qualities with the quote "good character is also essential".
Would have thought that when someone talks about "good character" and "solid citizen" they are not talking about football ability.
