How do you know he didn't go through a thorough interview process?

I just had a quick look, nothing really stood out as a balls up. They are all fairly late picks so not surprising.bullus_hit said:However you look at it's not too flattering, most of those guys shouldn't have been on the short list in the first place. But anyway, I'll cut Clarke some slack and see what he has to say about the future vision. It's his baby now and the buck officially stops with him as of December.
But one thing I'll say is the recruiting department must revert back to Champion Data statistical analysis, no need to reinvent the wheel when the experts have that covered.

Clarke couldn't work with Jackson much longer, vehemently disagreed with the direction of our first round picks. Clarke was one of the key people pushing for a change in type. This change has been in the works for about four months, Clarke has presented a entirely new direction to the footy department and Gale on what we value and why. This may be a internal promotion but it is a new direction, new thought process and the position has been earned. Hine was sought after but wasn't going to move.
If this is true, then I'm willing to reserve judgement until this years draft.

I have no idea about Matthew Clarke one way or another but all that means is that for me it is just a wait and see.

The concern for leysy is trusting Clarke with his values given the are untested at the top level.
And unlike other roles/depts, this is one where you need to be so 100% sure you have the right people/processes in place because you don't know you have it right/wrong for a minimum 3 years down the track.
Thats how long results take to show, thus the lag effect to the output of the team is so bloody great.
The other point leysy would ask - Any word on Hartley? Is he definately staying?
Because interesting he is still List Mgr, Clarke "just" Recruiting Mgr.
If you look at most clubs now the guy at the top of the recruiting tree is the List Manager. i.e. Hine, Wright, Wells etc, the head up all the recruiting staff inc recruiting Mgr.
With Clarke in his role from internal would think it's imperative we get some new IP into this position in place of Hartley given how poorly this area of the club have performed.

give Bully/Scoop the # so they can discuss thier Draft/Trade idea's with the recruiters etcse7en said:Just called the club and spoke to Gale

Hartley is supposedly staying but is another who's job profile is modified slightly along with D Richardson who will still be overseeing the recruiting n well being of players n setting up our academy stuff. While Balmey concentrates more on the coaching side to start with, but it's all under Balmey's total oversight.Leysy Days said:Cheers brother,

Kmac is not what you would call a solid citizenRedanTiger said:And here's some other mail.
Clarke worked with Jackson for 7 years after Jackson appointed him in 2009 because they shared values. After Clarke joined he found Jackson leaned more towards the Miller style of "vibe" picks like Dea, Taylor, Webberley, McDonald and Conca. This was against the Clarke method of collecting lots of personal data via surveys to ensure that "while talent is key, good character is also essential to fit in." http://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2013-12-16/tiger-talent-scout-coup.
Since Hartley became List Manager this has been the stated method of recruiting. So this "new direction, new thought process" is a direct re-affirmation of what the club has been aiming at for the last couple of years. The solid citizen of B Ellis, McIntosh, Vlastuin and C Ellis.
If this is true, then I'm willing to reserve judgement until this years draft and then compare results between the last two years and the previous seven.
PS Geez se7en if you've got that access find out where Clarke did his recruiting - SA or WA?

FWIW I haven't seen anything stated that Frank will be in charge of this draft only that he goes part time after it. Given the changes I would be very surprised if he actually is even if he is on paper.Tony Braxton-Hicks said:Frank is in the big chair for this draft, so there's no need to appoint anyone until after the draft, when all this year's IP from other clubs has been acted upon.
