Gadzzoks, T_G, you're quibbling! I don't care if a butterfly farted in Tombouctou we might have got another of those glamours. And we had free rein at #17. And as you know, we could see this all very differently in five years, or one. This is the best we can right now.

On the Naish pick, we made noises about not taking him early after GCS and North(?) were interested. He was nominated by St Kilda at #34 and we matched. Father/Son picks are pretty much forced on the clubs because of the discount so fair enough IMO.

And as you'll see the draft was pretty much over by then. Very few passable players left on the board. (Aside - would Harrison Petty be better than Miller, Garth or Biggy?)
Charlie Ballard looks a gun to me. Fantastic intercept defender

Outside of Walker and Ainsworth every one of those players taken after Higgins would be a significantly better outcome for us.
Brett Daniels? Fogarty? Spargo?

Higgins gets a bad rap on here. He was a regular in his 1st year in a team that dominated. this year, in a pretty ordinary team he is averaging 15 disposals and a goal a game.
same goals, less disposals and more score involvements that Liam Ryan.
HIs numbers arent far off Dan Butlers last year.

all still recovering from brain surgery.

Yes, Higglet was and still is a handy player. Just because he chose to leave doesn't change that.

After you look back on a few drafts you see that it's normal to bungle. All recruiters bungle. (Especially if they work for GCS. See hilarious above. BTW Matthew Clark was in love with Lukosius and Rankine. And both Kings after that.)

Getting a champion is the bit that sets one apart. But if there are none left it's smart to aim for one.

This draft vein is as weak as you will ever see as at July 2021. Bobby Hill? I like him. Vandermeer? He's ok. Jordan would play seniors for us and looks better than RCD at this stage.

I have to say that I think that RCD is close to the best prospect in this run. He's got upside. He plays midfield. Bobby Hill may prove better. And Jordan may go on with it. RCD third?

BTW I don't hate Rowbottom. Maybe he's third ATM.

Given the talent available I think RCD looks a perfectly respectable pick. And maybe he'll improve.

Tom Berry can play. What has happened to Mosquito?

Ross looks alright in retrospect. He's a more than adequate athlete. Can get a kick. I guess we all like Hind ATM. But there is nothing special here.

We should all keep an eye on where the rucks go. Bailey Williams at 35? Way too early IMO.

I didn't do any form on that draft, DA. Luckily. Heh heh. I might have fallen in too.

Professionals bungle a lot. Amateurs more.

I like McInerney.

Worpel's no loss.

Our failures in 2013-2015 are coming home to roost now. Clarke wasn't the boss then but we're reviewing drafts so I'm putting it in here.

We have no one from the 2013 draft on our list - 26 years of age, prime. George Hewett drafted with the pick we traded for Hampson. Nank, Alex Pearce, J.Kolo, Barrass, Aliir, Ben Brown all taken before our next pick, Nathan Gordon. Byrne-Jones, Fantasia, Sicily, J.Hunt all drafted between Gordon and Sammy Lloyd.

No one remaining from our 2014 cohort apart from the rookies Short, Soldo and George - and Lambert who was of the 2009 class age-wise. We did well in that rookie draft but left a few on the table post-CEllis and Menadue picks.

In 2015 we got Rioli, Markov and Broad but we also traded out our second round picks of that year and the following to get the pick 19 to trade for Yarran. It was worth the risk for the quality and type of player, but a failure of intelligence not to know he was on the pipe. Tom Cole, Blake Hardwick, Bailey Williams (WB) the best of those taken between our traded 2015 second and Markov. Parfitt, Lipinski, Brennan Cox, Sean Darcy, Josh Rotham, Ratugolea, W.Rioli amongst those we could have drafted if we'd held onto our 2016 second for a year and traded that for Caddy instead of Gold Coast's.
