Matt white

Whitey plays his 50th game against the Roos this week. :clap

I am looking forward to him shoving that weak prick Brent Harvey's face into the mud at some stage of the game. :hihi

Very little mud at the G nowadays Hypo. ;D

I thought White's game on Simpson last week was pretty good.

Looks like he is being given the defensive role on the most damaging outside mid. Hopefully he will get Harvey. The coaching staff need to see if he is capable of playing on the big names.

Pretty important time for Whitey's career IMO.

I thought King played on Simpson last week, at least that's what the commentators were saying. Why would they play the quickest bloke in the team as a tagger anyways?

Sorry Barnzy you could be right about King on Simpson.

My point is that White is struggling to find a position and IMO he is best suited to a defensive role.
His pace will enable him to play on the genuine speedsters that that play midfield.

Who else has the ability to play on the outside mids? Blokes like Lovett from the Dons come to mind.

We are having a fair bit of trouble defensively at the stoppages due a lack of defensive presence. Someone has to be able to run with the blokes doing damage from the contest.

And Murphy smashed him

Did he? Sure Murphy kicked a goal and got more disposals but they weren't all effective and IMO White hurt him going the other way on a few occasions, just our forwards didn't convert to boost his assists.

Besides I believe he may have been learning to play a tag type of role, which although I think doesn't suit him, he's probably playing to the coaches instructions.

Saw a great bit of play form White when he bursed out of the centre and hit Vickery( I think) lace out in the 3rd qtr :clap

CC, do you think Matty White will make to 100 games for the Richmond Football Club?

IMHO if we are to be a genuine contender I dont think players like White can help us achieve that level, in saying that wouldnt be shocked to see him on the list for another 3 seasons to get 100 games, I personally wouldnt keep him, (however I am constantly wrong ;D ), wont be unhappy to be proven wrong in this case either, however just dont think he has it to be a premiership player .

Said it before but if Matt ever got his kicking to a very good level he'd be a very handy AFL player running off half back. Doubt it'll happen though.

His kicking has improved a lot from where it was awhile ago. In fact, earlier in on this season when everyone was focusing on our turnovers, he was one of the only ones in those games who could pinpoint targets inside the 50.

Hes gotta get a footy brain also.

The guy is a shocking decision maker. He needs a brain that can keep up with his feet, runs fast and applies himself well, but just doesnt convince me, i reckon, poor decisions, poor disposer of footy on the whole apart from application and footspeed he is a limited footballer in my opinion to be honest.

I'm a fan of Whitey, I don't think he's perfect by any means, however none are

I don't see anything fundamentally wrong with his kicking, however he tries to do everything at 110% pace, which means his accuracy suffers.
He does all the team things, seems to follow instruction pretty well, he just needs more composure which should come with more experience.
I have no problem keeping him on the list for a couple more years. There are plenty who need to go in front of him, he has an amazing combination of speed and endurance, his pace can result in game breaking plays. He's fast enough that he can put space on an opponent and not have to still be at full speed as he disposes of the ball. If he can learn that in the next 12-18 months then he'll turn out to be a good player.
You can see with most footballers that the 60-80 game mark is where a player really starts to belong at AFL level, Matty is still 12 months away from this point of his career and I can't see any reason why he won't be given the time to reach this point and prove he has what it takes.

This is exactly how I feel ZeroGame. Good work and well said.
