Lynch !!

So Dimma confirms that Lynch will do some secondary ruck work.

Said it as soon as we got him that I expected him to and get howled down.

Between Balta & Lynch we have retooled the secondary ruck spot.
When did he say that?

Really not that clear from Hardwick's comments. Could be construed as some forward line throw in contests. Personally wouldn't like him to be doing much ruck time particularly this year.

What would I know, but I find it difficult to imagine Lynch taking on rucking contests at centre bounces ... maybe on occasions in the forward line at boundary throw-ins. But I wouldn't have think he would carry a heavy workload in the ruck, certainly not until the season is well underway and his physical fitness has settled.

Here is the quote word for word "Tom probably will at stages, there's no doubt about that," Hardwick told AFL.com.au of Lynch spelling Nankervis in the ruck. "At the end of the day, the second ruck for us plays, what, 10 per cent of the game? So he'll be pinch-hitting

It's happening,

What Hardwick says preseason and what happens during the season are often 2 very different things. Pre 2010 Jack was going to be our 3rd tall in the forward line. Had Griffiths not received a concussion in Rd 2 2017, Grigg would not have been our 2nd ruck.

I think absolute ease is bit of an exaggeration. You're talking about the first half last year against Crows at their ground?
Well Rance pansed him in the second half with ease. You couldn't surely be talking about 2017 GF.
Rance is 194cm and comes up against guys who have 3 cm and 10kg on him. He won't win every one on one. No one can but he's the best full back we've ever had and not sure why some people perpetuate the myth that he's no good one on one?
Rejoice in the positives. He won't be around for ever
Had some flogs going on about "Rance never plays on a man, McGovern *smile* all him blah blah". As soon as the stats are pulled out they run a mile.

Has had a total of 14 hit outs from his last 51 games, and averages 0.63 hit outs a game for his whole career.

He's a dominate tall forward, who should play forward and contest the odd ball up or boundary throw in when the ball is in his neck of the woods.

Going to be at the game on Thursday night & although one would like to see Lynch play I will not be disappointed if he is not in.

What Hardwick is saying is that Nankervis can essentially ruck for 90% of the game and that Lynch could potentially ruck the other 10%. Nankervis would then be resting forward instead of coming off which could be a good strategy as he presents a Cox like target. This would be a better solution than resting on the bench and being reliant on only one tall target for 10% of the game. They sound like they have committed to two talls in the forward line and want consistency.
Where this leaves Balta is an interesting question as I'm not sure how we play 3 talls in the forward line.
Wing for Grigg seems the only logical conclusion. Has the arrival of Lynch had a negative impact on Balta's immediate ability to play the forward ruck role or can he ruck from the wing rotation with Broad and Nanks goes to the bench?

Personally I'd be very surprised if Lynch would ruck anytime soon other than maybe some pinch hitting forward contests. Has anyone seen him competing in ruck drills at training? Back from a serious knee injury, no ruck practise, yet straight into the ruck as 2nd ruck for Nanks? Seems unlikely and illogical to me. PS I can't see Nanks rucking 90% game time or all but 3 minutes a quarter. Under quoted by Hardwick imo.

He won’t. Between Balta/Lynch we have our back up 15% covered.

Lynch might do the forward line work, some around the ground stuff and Balta takes the center square stuff.

But he will do some ruck work.

Sure if his past is a guide then he will surely do some limited ruck work.I don't think that will be early on. Think he will be parked at full forward and Reiwoldt likely to do more of that in the early games. Really the great thing is we have so much more flexibility with the addition of Lynch and Balta to the team. Exciting times.

I'd like to see Balta play on the wing, and hopefully make that position his own. This would allow him to give Nank a chop out, and leaves us with just the two tall forwards.

did I hear right that Dimma said no to a side with Balta, NAnak and Lynch. I can see this working, Balta is a type that is not a traditional key position not a flanker type with an extraordinary amount of potential. I would like to see all 3 play.... we dont need a Soldo / other ruck if we select these 3... knowing full well Lynch will not be at any center bounce early 2019.

I sometimes wonder how some people get a gig in the media. Lyon and Watson on SEN this morning basically said we are nuts to play Lynch on thursday. he may or may not play, but i would have thought our strength and conditioning people have a pretty good track record in recent years. If he is selected to play, then i trust it will be the right decision.

I think SEN is nuts to have hired Lyon. Just like Lyon's opinion on Lynch, mine doesn't count on Lyon.

The AFL loves him, Jonesy. He does whatever they ask. To hear him last week prosecuting the case for a twilight grand final was to know that the AFL has decided this is the way it must go.

Definitely, i can only imagine him being the poster boy for brown nose's & i have come across a few in my time. he'd be right up there.
