Agree with others saying it was a bad look & totally not necessary. He needs to eliminate the silly stuff like that. But if he gets a week for that it would be ridiculous.
Even if it was “next to nil if not completely nil“ in terms of causing injury then surely there was “absolutely nil“ value in doing it
It was unnecessary and not a great look - but it was also risking a free kick - and that would have made it dumb as well
Don't mind him showing off the ball aggro but prefer when all parties are on their feet and facing each other
just watched it again, I cant believe anyone thinks that is a suspension actually.
It was an open hand push to his head. no clenched fist. Player jumps straight back up after he realizes the ump isnt going to give a free for his reaction. It should have been a free kick, but like much of the night - the umps were terrible and didnt call it. Even a fine would be harsh.
The only thing that even makes this a conversation is we know the AFL are totally inconsistent when it comes to stuff like this. You cant suspend a bloke for pushing a bloke in the head with low impact. The only risk involved in what he did was a free kick.
Exactly. How many times would this happen between brothers / mates? No real malice. Just a bit of blokey one-upmanship but I guess that's not allowed any more
Gee there's a bit of a push on from some media types. ... mostly ex players who are carrying on like it's the greatest dog act ever committed. .. probably get done for a blade of grass brushing his cornea!Normally when u watch an incident in slow-mo, it looks way worse. His is the opposite. Watching it in slow-mo you realise how pathetically nothing it was. A open handed push to the back of his head. The head never hits the ground - no bounce back of force whatsoever - the force was so minimal that the momentum stops by just glancing the lion blokes inner arm. You see the opponent grab his head to try and draw a free (which was there), peak to the side to see if it got the umps attention - didn't - straight back up as if nothing happened. If he gets a week they will contest it for sure
I tend to agree with those saying it is a poor look. Reckon we would be filthy if an opposition player did it to one of ours.
Then again, Tom Hawkins, a serial offender, just got off with elbowing a player in the head. If Lynch somehow gets suspended for this indiscretion then that really is ludicrous
Just read the story in the HUN where their premier footy writers Simeon Thomas-Wilson and Chris Cavanagh wrote up : “Richmond faces a nervous wait for the MRO review on Wednesday after the spearhead was involved in a silly incident. He forcefully pushed Alex Witherdens head into the ground. Witherden was not injured but if MRO Officer Michael Christian deems there was enough force to warrant a report then Lynch would face a one game ban for intentional of low impact and high contact. “
Well there you are, judge jury and executioner.
Tom owned Andrews from before the first bounce.i reckon he needs to lay off the constant elbows, and plastic tough guy stuff. it doesnt achieve anything.
Tom owned Andrews from before the first bounce.
It was stupid and looked stupid. Still not worth a week, but of course because it looked spiteful and petulant the MRP offers 1 week - is that confirmed? If so Tom's only got himself to blame.
i don't mind Tom playing the tough guy if it helps his game, but that was just plastic manufactured nonsense.
$500 fine.
