Luke Weller

Well played Luke.

A few turn overs early :( But you made up for it.
Did well when moved forward.

Keep up the good work. ;D

I agree TD

Was really impressed by Luke tonight, really showed that he does have what it takes if he puts in.

Took some great strong marks when needed

Terrible kick and slow but was quite important in the last quarter where he marked well and got a lot of the ball.

Yeah I thought he was good particularly in the last quarter. He presented well and took some good marks. However, he doesn’t have the polish or skill to finish off his good work. That shot at goal he had in the 2nd quarter was laughable.

Made up for his early poor play in the last quarter. Didn't impress me all that much. He did what he was required to, nothing more, nothing less. Don't get carried away guys.

Like everyone else says, we need to play this guy constantly throughout the season to get a good idea of where he is at.

But gee is he ugly to watch..

Ive seen worse play for Richmond.
I think he will be better than Morrison.

Good hands and presents well....if only he could kick. Also seems to lack in the vision dept... a few times there were Tigers loose in our fwd 50 jumping up and down and he just didn't seem to see them.

At least he tries!

Reasonable last quarter made up for very ordinary first 3 quarters. Looks like he will need a LOT of kicking practice.

If he CAN actually play, then he will take a lot out of the haw game confidence wise. But in my memory, most of his efforts in the last quarter were uncontested except for that free at CHF.

Jury definitely still out over a verdict on whether he can play at the required level, but he needs/deserves another 3 or 4 games at least.

too slow, no skills.

Name one player that wasn't a KPP who was really slow and had shocking skills that made it ?

No one is asking for him to play as a KPP, but i think Luke can really offer the club something as a Half Forward. I seen him play there against Carlton in the pre-season and he actually turned that game back in our favour with his direct leads and strong hands.

If Spud leaves him there for the next few weeks i am sure he can show what he has to offer. I also agree that he does need to work on his skills a little more but its not as though he is the worst we have seen.

Do yourself proud Luke and cement a spot in out team

I don't see any problems with PRE sponsoring players, I think it shows support to the club, you are not going to be able to sponsor Gun Recruits every time, and we need to be showing support to all players, not just the top echelon.

I hope we continue the sponsorship in future years, stuff the naysayers I for one am fed up of every thread being negative even when someone tries to start something positive there are always people who have to put the boots in, even though everyone is entitled to their own opinion, as we are continously reminded.

I hope Danny and Co. will persevere with him. We can't expect much from him yet, please give him some time :p

i reckon he`s going to struggle to carve a long term career in the afl .

seems a bit slow of the mark , & more reactive than proactive

Great game when the heat was on from Luke.

I said to my mate when he came on for Schulz in the last, all he needs to do is compete and not get beaten. Well he won 3 one on one contests and was a major reason why we were able to hang on.

His lack of speed was a worry early on. Needs to get of the weights and concentrate on speed work.

I agree - Weller's skills are very, very ordinary. Too many turnovers and seems to panic a bit when he gets the footy. My heart was in my mouth in the last couple of minutes when he kicked to Tivendale in centre and Tiv just managed to take an outstreched mark.
And that set shot he had in the second quarter - what a pathetic kick!!
He's also slow and on occasions struggled to keep up with his opponents.
Can see him spending more time at Coburg then in the Seniors. Another dud recruit.

Maybe Luke is just overall by the experience of playing for the mighty Tigers.
I think the forward line is the best options for him. Like everyone has said, he lacks pace and his delivery to other players is pretty poor. Might be able to hide him in the forward line, but the last thing we need is another slow player.

:(

Weller wasn't the worst on Friday night.
I though he matched up OK on Nick Holland, they weren't a bad match-up fpr pace, and in the last quarter he had a real dip at CHF.
He's got no polish, but he will battle on, and he creates a contest, which should mean lots of pickings for Brown, Krakouer, Roach etc on the deck.

sounds a fair bit like Ben Holland to me............ ::)

look hes just plain slow with little skill.
miller came over to perth before the draft this yr and i heard he was looking at a kid called michael johnson. 194cm 94kg good mover good mark lots of potential. i was certain we were going to take him but no we ended up with weller instead. johnson is currently playing in the ruck for perth due to injuries and playing good footy. he normally plays chb and if given an opportunity by the dockers imho will make it.
