Luke Weller

we need a richmond man

im sick of us recruiting staff from other clubs. we need a true tiger thats passionate about the team, instead of these guys from other clubs that have their hearts elsewhere. our answer is a true blue tiger.

they seem to ruin our club because the dont have the drive for the yellow & black.

And how many senior games has this guy played? Seems a tad early to be preparing his clearance form.
C'mon Dean you know better than that. I'm waiting for Harts or Roachy to put in a bad game. I'm telling you they're just duds just waiting to happen ;) Quick delist them before they're thrown to the ferals without mercy ;D :D ;D

If Brisbane couldnt fi is defficiances theyre aint no chance in hell SPUD will. We were given a lemon!!!

There was only one man that ever got the better out of traded players and that was Northey. Bond, Dear, Gale, Brodders to name a few. he even got that dud wigney to play well..

I never had any doubt about that Harry ;D

I heard the reason for his selection to tigerland was for his hardness. I don't know if they mean hardness as in "He tries hard". Looked slow, I'll give him a few more games before I rate him. Wish him all the best ;)

Personally I am willing to give him a bit more than 1 game. While yeah what everyone is saying is true, I will give him at least 4-5 consecutive games to show something.

Remember he isnt a 18-year old club and he has been at a successful club so Im sure he would have learnt a few things at Brisbane. Lets see how he responds this week.

By the way Harry, I'll have you know that I did play quite a few senior games for the Tigers in the late 70s.

The Balwyn Tigers, that is. ;D ;D ;D :D 8) :p :-\

How many premierships did we win with these guys in our team?? Ummmm..... ::)

"He tries hard"

He's got the job at the tigers, he can join the rest of the try hards that most think are good players because they try hard..dont matter if there is zero skill..as long as you try hard come down to tigerland..there is always a place for you.

But dont forget to train the house down as well....just look at chaffey he needs to be told to stop training so hard.
And he has ammassed 150 games.

I don't judge a player on one performance.

Its the attributes a player has and what he can possibly offer that I initially look at.  Weller is a short tall, who severly lacks pace and skill..............what can he possibly offer to improve the team ?

He cannot possibly be groomed for a key defensive post, and he can't possibly be a creative damaging running type player ?

What did RFC have in mind for him ?

I don't bag players for the sake of it ..........I call it as it is.

You will find that most people bagging Weller are praising Hartigan and Roach.

Poor old Luke. He really has a go – no problem in commitment stakes at all – but I agree. Geez he has a chronic pace problem.

I watched him closely on Friday night when he was chasing a Crow, and honestly, his sprint is about the pace of most AFL players’ ¾ stride. And as other people have pointed out, his skill level is questionable as well.

It’s the not players’ fault, but this is a key issue that RFC supporters have been so infuriated at for such a long time i.e. the long running recruiting debacle.

How many discarded players from other clubs are we gonna recruit that have deficiencies that are immediately obvious to us all as ordinary footy mugs - but aren’t to the people actually running Richmond ?

Aren’t Beck, Miller, Frawley etc. supposed to be professionals in evaluating footy talent ?

It just never ceases to amaze me the ratio of players with gaping deficiencies in their game that we recruit, versus those that we recruit who could be considered to be reasonably well-rounded in the game and with that, would ultimately stand a greater chance of being successful long term players for us.

I agree with all of that Redfish
Some reasoning and logic does wonders...
I took on the prez of Weller because he reminded me of a big tall slow backman who also wears No 30 who cops plenty for having no ability......mmmm who is it???

Ahh well if he dont improve we'll punt him off to a bigger bunch of losers who only recruit hacks...
Glasgow Rangers ;DLMAO

How much spare time have you got, Neeld? Our history is chockers of "true blue tigers" who couldn't run a chook raffle!

The game is too professional nowadays to give the retiring champ (whoever he might be) a comfy position to see out his retirement.

How many successful guys do you see in present-day clubs who were true-blue to that team? Roos comes to mind but Sheedy, Malthouse and Matthews are not serving time at their "playing-days" clubs - and that's just looking at coaches without glancing through the rest of their staff.

4 clubs out of 16 isnt bad. i think its a good idea to go for someone like sheedy or northey. richmond sons. my own opinion... not someone like plough who played for us and had a bad experience... maybe bring back merv keane (my mate)!

Hmmmm...."Redfish".....I like that....not bad Beverlyhills 90210...not bad.

Yes, our old number 30 what a champion he was. Reminded me of a typical Celtic centre forward: tall, clumsy, dumb, inept and useless.

(By the way Beverly, I do enjoy your bagpipe playing outside Flinders Street Station every night. Good stuff.)

I think the criticisms of Luke Weller are extremely premature.

He was very good in the preseason. Certainly not slow. He has a very good kick.

He came on when the crows were dominating and there was no midfield pressure whatsoever. That would make some of the best players in the competition look slow.

Naturally, in that environment, a young defender will struggle. Particularly when there is no team support.

The crows forward line had been given plenty of confidence thanks to Gaspar and the non existant tiger midfield. They probably all believed they were superhuman and were trying anything.

Given a full game against a single opponent, I am sure Weller will
give a good account of himself as he did in the preseason and gain a mental advantage.

Its easy to be critical but Weller wasnt given a go on the weekend.

Frawley raved about Roach. Yet he spent tons of time again on the bench. In a team without Richo, Morrison got to warm the bench for plenty of time as well.

Big difference between brisbane players and richmond players is discipline. The tigers have none thanks to the no game plan of danny frawley. I think there is room for a couple of disciplined players at punt road.

Question is, how long will it take for frawley to destroy all that brisbane training.
