I didn't see the game last week and would be very grateful if someone could tell me a bit about Luke's game. I haven't even checked the stats.

What position did he play? Did he get much ground time? How did he go?

Thanks. :)

He had a tough one first up...
Looked very slow under extreme pressure considering the ball was constantly in Adelaide's F50
Doesn't seem to have the goods on first impression

He played up back and looked a bit lost....then again he wasn't on his own there.

I'd like to see Weller tried on a forward flank. With Tuck to come in and play the 'third tall' role in the backline.

I think you'll find he's a dud. Too slow, poor marking, loopy kick. Couldn't possibly play forward. Reminds me of Jason Cloke, ok at spoiling but can do nothing else.

I'm sure I'll get howled down for not giving him a go but unfortunately he looks like another dud. My rather ample gut tells me he won't cut it and when it comes to assessing RFC players recently it's been right most of the time ;)

Poor skill level; what a surprise

He is a slow, unskilled, hospital kicking hack. What our recruiting and selecting committee saw in him in the first place baffles me. They must have gone on the proviso that he came from Brisbane so he must be good, without actually looking at him play.

It was there to see in Wizard and practice game matches pre season. Harsh, sad, but true.

Rosy, he had over 80 minutes game time and picked up 1 kick and 2 handballs. Of these, from memory 2 were clangers!

I'm really not sure why we picked him up. I know it's only one game, but his lack of everything seemd really obvious even in the practice games!

the guys is an absolute dud!!! Nothing new about that!! All out pre season drafts are duds!! Including Marsh!! We were better off getting read, who has a bit of mongrel in him. Typical frawley and richmond, go by reputation. Get rid of these hacks!!

Unfortunately, I think that Luke won't be making the grade at Richmond. He made little impression on me during the pre season and last weeks effort for 3 possessions was tough to watch. He had a history of playing well in defence with the Northern Eagles in Qld, but has too many deficits in his game, primarily his lack of speed. I won't be surprised if he get another chance this week against Hawthorn, but don't hold your breath for an outstanding performance (join the rest of them!)

I was abused for suggesting last week that this guy wasn't up to AFL level. He showed nothing on Friday night to change my mind.Let's call a spade a spade, he was an extremely poor draft.

Gee this blokes going well isn't he? Even his sponsors are calling him a dud.
I wonder if Luke ever reads this site (since a number of posters have put there hard earned money in sponsoring him, *smile* and Jackson). I'm sure he would apprecaite the support of his sponsors!!!

Rosy - Not sure it's appropriate that PRE sponsors players in future. This site is 90% negative posts (as you would expect when the side is performing poorly). Can't say that this would be pleasant reading for the players who are sponsored and may actually take the time to peruse the site. What do you think?

In saying that, I agree, that Weller doesn't seem up to pslying consistently good Senior footy. We might get a couple of decent games out of him, but i have a feeling there will be more ordinary games then decent ones.

why do we bother talking about 80% of our players when you can cut and paste the same comments in all their threads.

I see this topic "Luke Weller" and i think to myself who cares?..ditto ditto ditto ditto

As Lukes president, l was disappointed that he didn't show a bit more, and seemed to get caught out of position nearly all night.
He also played re-active footy and didn't seem comfortable in a role where he seemed to chase all night...and he's no speedster.
Just remember folkes this was hardly a great showing by any of his teamates either and no much of a way to debut under pressure all night in the backline with no encouragement or leadership by his senior players.
He may get better...l hope so as he has got a strong body and has the guts to back into a contest.
As for SOME of you guys lining up to slag off every player who isn't a Voss or Hird,well...you all know what an easy game footy is at AFL level dont you??
And surely its not the same people screaming for the younger/untried blokes to be given a go??
Maybe its time to look back to when the rookie draft was done and 'out' those who thought Weller was a good choice who now have labelled him trash after ONE game.
Sorry to interrupt you guys, back to the slagging.....

In a nutshell Weller has plenty of work to do to cut it, and l hope he takes his chance with both hands.
He probably has 'til seasons end to do so.
Go for it Luke

The club has plenty of work to do the mould him to a good player...struggle.
He has made it into the big league and now needs direction and if there is no direction or tuition offered to him then he will fall by the wayside like most of our draftees.

Poor old Luke. He really has a go – no problem in commitment stakes at all – but I agree. Geez he has a chronic pace problem.

I watched him closely on Friday night when he was chasing a Crow, and honestly, his sprint is about the pace of most AFL players’ ¾ stride. And as other people have pointed out, his skill level is questionable as well.

It’s the not players’ fault, but this is a key issue that RFC supporters have been so infuriated at for such a long time i.e. the long running recruiting debacle.

How many discarded players from other clubs are we gonna recruit that have deficiencies that are immediately obvious to us all as ordinary footy mugs - but aren’t to the people actually running Richmond ?

Aren’t Beck, Miller, Frawley etc. supposed to be professionals in evaluating footy talent ?

It just never ceases to amaze me the ratio of players with gaping deficiencies in their game that we recruit, versus those that we recruit who could be considered to be reasonably well-rounded in the game and with that, would ultimately stand a greater chance of being successful long term players for us.

Agree with Redford on this one. What did RFC see in this guy? After initially seeing him in the wizz cup I thought - geez, what have they done now? I would have thought that Miller of all people can identify a lemon when he see's one. This is a real concern because Miller, who some people consider the mesiah, has in effect been in charge of the football department during the period that we recruited Fleming, Fletcher, Nichols, Weller, Marsh and was in charge during the Brown and Johnson trades.

And how many senior games has this guy played? Seems a tad early to be preparing his clearance form.
