Luke McGuane

There is much admiration for McGuane. He's been a serviceable player and a mighty clubman.
He did set a bit of a spark early on against the Hawks and his two goals were important, but I thought he pretty much disappeared after half-time.
I regard McGuane as a useful back-up (at either end of the ground), but as I have remarked previously, if he is in our best 22 come end of 2014 then the Tigers will be in a spot of bother.

Lake probably beat him on the day but he kept him very honest. Jack enjoyed being one out against Gibson.
I actually thought they worked pretty well in tandem. His defensive work was excellent(6 tackles). Put a lot of pressure on the Hawk defenders.

Meh, between Edwards & McGuane the same stuff gets trotted out pretty regularly.

Both just holding the space for McBean. Time to move McG off to GWS or some low rank team for a pick after 50 that we can use on a SLR.

This is what happens when you have experienced fit depth players when they are out of contract.

They play for their lives.

That's why I have always been a bit concerned when RFC agrees to five-year arrangements with players.

Muscles did his job fairly well didn't he ToOheys? Can't ask for much more from a fringe depth player, probably earned another run next week.

McBean will need another season in the VFL.
One of these two will most likely be kept on for another season.

Reckon McBean will get a taste this year. But agree, I think McGuane will be kept on. Don't see the point in keeping 30yo Edwards.

Again I thought Luke played closer to the role King does usually than Vickery.
That he was able to crash packs as well as apply pressure was good for our structure against the Hawks.
For the 6th time out of 10 games he kicked 2 or more goals and he averages the 2nd most goals aside from Jack this year for the team.
I too would keep him ahead of Edwards. Key forwards don't grow on trees and Luke is a handy depth option.

Can't say I've seen King crashing too many packs and applying too much pressure in his later games for the Tigers. But you're probably right, most likely will be Vickery in for the Big O. McGuane will most likely keep his spot.

im not aware we have given any 5 years contracts to 'depth players'.

He’s a free agent isn’t he?

I presume he’s just going to walk to a team that gives him a better chance of senior footy.

Not often we agree Ralph but we do this time. It's the same dribble over and over again no matter how well they play.

I would think so. I certainly wouldn't be spending a dollar more on McGuane then required. If he walks keep Edwards. Only need one, McBean should be4 first inline for that role next year.

Morning Sam. Agree, the sooner we disperse these duds we can discuss the quality virtues of the replacement.

Great point, it's spot on. Defensive forward was and should be his main focus. Prefer King in that role as he provides more creative options as well. And makes pretty sound choices with the ball.

I'm guessing the "reality" is BETWEEN MCguane and A Edwards we,ve done alright out of them. Neither of them are going to be vital, long term answers but as a combined whole they've done the job ( so far) for 2013. 22 games for 16 goals but obviously there's more than that, the making space, the defensive forward role etc has worked.

Lids is the only guy with a 5 year contract and he is both a gun and hasn't missed a game in more than six years

I'm not sure Kingy would have kept Lake's attention the way McGun did. Keeping Lake away from Jack worked a treat.

Edwards will still be contracted next year won't he? Didn't we give him two or three years? If one goes, it'll be McGuane.
