Luke McGuane

He is going very well. His marking has gone to the next level. Still prone to horrible clangers and brain fades but is no doubt earning his keep.

Not sure about the value in kicking it to him in the forward pocket though. Very low percentage chance of a goal from there.

Exactly. Maybe he shouldn't leed out there? Just has to play within his limits... Which seem to be expanding exponentially atm :clap :clap

Good point.
I have always defended McGuane and am enjoying his good form.
But I must confess that I didn't think Jackson was worth his spot but his form today was great. Well done.

I have to agree with the Jacko philosophy, wasn't a big fan but he's stepped up this season a bit like Sheds did last year.

Re: Luke McGun

Very handy solid player up forward. Gives 100% he is tough and does his job. Good to see he has revived his career.

He doesn't lose many contests ATM. He doesn't win them all, but usually finds a way to halve them.

Yep. Wins it or halves it. Also very good at following up at ground level too.

Best way to explain our key forwards.

Riedwolt= the Mercedes. A nice vehicle does everything well. Can let you down but a favourite.

Vickery= family station wagon. Can't do what a lot of other cars can in terms of lookks and performance but is there and serves a key purpose.

Mcguane= the 1994 corolla you bought your kid to learn in. Keeps going no matter what it hits. Is keen to impress and may miss the target occasionally but you thank god they didn't write off the merc.

Very well said. :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

A serious question - Why wasn't he given a shot in the forward line 3-4-5 years ago?

Was shifted up there a few times. Looked a marginally better forward than Thursfield.
Schulz & McGuane, both late bloomers. Perhaps we should've held onto Post? :bs

Re: Luke McGun

It's the roll on effect that I like. He hits the pack some damn hard, for all his faults he has always been a fierce competitor. Back men hate these, third man up especially, backing into traffic now seems a bit more dangerous. But he is also proving to be a player that needs to be manned up. So we've now got backmen who are a little less brave and another playing taken away from Jack and Tyrone.

Luke playing this role without the goals would be invaluable, but add in the goals and he will end up a vital part of the team.
Well done Luke. :clap

Re: Luke McGun

I love it when a player makes me eat my words.

Far too many over the years have failed to make me, but I am wrapped to say.......

I WAS WRONG!

GO LUKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Luke McGun

He spent years chasing the backsides of the likes of Buddy, Lloyd and co.
And after almost a decade he gets to go to the forward line and beat up on squibs like Bootsma, Roberton and some pasty white red-head today who I can't even be bothered looking up to see who he was.

He must just be laughing at the change in opponents he has been getting to stand next to.

Re: Luke McGun

how lucky have we been mcgun titch and kingy got there 2nd chance and have repaid big time dimma loves the hard nuts and that is why i love dimma

Been saying it for years. When the young elite kids ( Lids, Cotch, Dusty, Jaaack, Swish, etc ) mature up to take their rightful places at the forefront of the team then the footsoldiers will fulfill their roles as support players rather than not being quite up to playing the lead role.

Always appreciated the fighting efforts of blokes like Lace out, Jacko, Jakey but they were out gunned trying to be the leading players.

This thread fell off the front page. It needs to be back where it belongs.

McGun, the Mighty McGun.

Not getting ahead of ourselves much again? Rags to riches story?

He has been pitted against worse defenders then he ever was. Let's hope he can keep it up against the better sides.

wasnt roughhead on him? been a lot of talking him up in the press before last few weeks (roughhead that is).

the other thing too is what kind of defender do you play on McGuane? one week he is taking close to mark of the century, the next week in a matter of minutes he twice picks up balls off his laces without breaking stride and gives off to a teammate (kick to Tuck, than handpass to jack) for goals. that is not forgetting his snap for halfway up the southern stand.
he does it all. he is a nightmare match up.

Easy, easy. I'm far from sold, but he's doing a lot more than I ever expected. The next month will tell the tale. In the meantime, keep it up.
