Liam McBean

Can anyone find the Goalkicking leaderboard for the VFL?

Would love to see how he's going especially to compare him against Hogan.

I saw him last weekend against North Ballarat for the first time since early in the season. I am sold, massive potential. Plays like a 200 cm medium forward.

Not this year because he can't chase yet, no tank, and would get knocked around at AFL level. Next season the "ëxperts" will be wondering where he came from.

Good times

I heard him being discussed on MMM football like none of them had ever heard of him. He played for Vic metro last year, it's not like he's come from Canada.

We are now at a no lose situation with Cute Arse McBean.

He fully deserves a game on form. 11 goals from his last two games means he's storming the door down.

It is a perfect time to play him, not a lot to lose in the last 3 games. If he comes off we have found the 3rd tall we've been after all year,

If he proves not ready, we can quickly go back to Muscles/Edwards where we know exactly what we'll get straight away.

Perfect situation to roll the dice. But will the match committee...

Not if the selection of Nakas last was any indication. And let's not forget Azza kicked seven so would be in more contention than Liam :'(

Dimma still feels we aren't in that position as a football club yet to blood youngsters if we have injuries. Other clubs such as Sydney, Collingwood, Fremantle, Geelong would rather bloody youngsters and find out if they have something at the higher level before giving a game to a washed up dud ala Adwards.

Are we strong enough as a team to blood a youngster who won't have a great impact but will get taken over the line by a solid core group of players? The reason Sydney and Geelong can blood youngsters is because the older players will get the job done and they won't have to rely on a young player having an impact. Not sure we are at that stage yet. McDonough should have played instead of Nahas against Brisbane though. Perfect time to see what he has.

I know I'm in the minority but I would be happy for him not to play this year. He will be completely outmatched in strength against the Tim Mohr type that he will play on and he's going to have to play in a way that he shouldn't later in his career i.e avoiding physical contact.

Having said that I will still be excited if he plays, but the bloke I really want to see play is McDonough.

Agree Col.

We're finals focussed so it's best we just stick to a finals team rather than debuting kids now. Leave it until early next season.

And at present Nahas doesn't give much, so even a newbie couldn't give much less, but could have more upside.
I think it's more that old line of knowing your role, the kids just need more Coburg time to understand exactly what is required of them when they get their chance, and to work on building afl bodies.

All those teams you mentioned have a seriously talented and experienced core of finals conditioned players, plus Cats n Scumwood have their own VFL teams to develop their juniors through.
This is probably the first time that we haven't needed to blood a heap of youngsters during the season and it shows in our consistency of performance.
There's no doubt that another batch of youngsters will be given their opportunity next year, with the benefit of two preseasons and a year of state league footy under the belt they should be in a better position to hold their place in the senior team.
No surprise to see a few older insurance type players quietly disappear over the next two summers as the next generation of youngsters push for a senior spot.

In an early (Jan 5, 2012) mock draft by Knightmare on BF, he had McBarge Arse going at #9.

"#9 St Kilda - Liam McBean (VIC – Ruck/KPF)
Height: 201cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 25/08/1994
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style: Josh Fraser
Player comparison:
Range: 5-30
Profile: Ruckman who can also play forward to a high level. McBean is a really agile type who is excellent at ground level for a player of his size and has an excellent skill set and decision making ability for a tall. As a forward typically leads to the right spots and is a strong marking target. Additionally he is an above average set shot goal kicker which is another nice positive. Physically McBean has a fair way to go and I don’t ever expect him to develop into a super strong ruckman or key forward but I can certainly see him developing into a very capable AFL level footballer who could play either position to a high level."

Also had Flossy at #3.

"#3 Port Adelaide- Nick Vlastuin (VIC - Mid)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 19/04/1994
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style: Nathan Buckley (less athletic)
Player comparison:
Range: 2-15
Profile: Midfielder who consistently wins the contested footy and just consistently goes harder than the next player. Big time clearance player. Skill level is exceptional, uses it well by both hand and foot and rarely makes mistakes. Particularly stands out by foot and have nice penetration. Has also been noted for leadership and really leads by example out on the field so there is allot to like. Consistently plays to a high level. Athletically not as good as other likely high end midfield choices but is still a hard runner who will work all day and demonstrates great endurance and work rate. Tackles hard and willingly works both ways. Looks like a very low risk, solid pro who is worthy of a high draft position."

Not bad KM. Well done Tigs.

I'm conflicted.

The heart wants the quick gratification of seeing one of our young guns playing in the seniors now.

The head wants to wait until next year for Beanie to get another preseason under the belt and be unleashed on an unsuspecting AFL in Round 1.

Simple. Enter him into the Grand Final Sprint. He's bound to break the 10sec barrier
